Yeah, the reactions make one wonder how small of a percentage of their brain some people actually use.

Maybe the Flames would rather give Wotherspoon more meaningful minutes in the AHL though if a Gio replacement is needed long term.
Sucks that Gio's injured, but we have a team to ice and a playoff push to go after. Some over the top reactions (not yours EE) to the Flames needing to potentially plug a hole with some D depth due to injury and clearly not looking to give up much to get it (given they seem to want to actually stay the course with their future vision)

If Bryan Allen is the only move we get this deadline he will stand tall in the Pantheon of brutal, innate, bandages-on-bullet-holes deadline deals we've seen in the past. *ahem*... Freddie Modin.

they could even be looking at Allen to fill minutes in the AHL. It would be a travesty if neither the NHL or AHL teams made the post season.

Well actually the context of the Friedman quote was Boomer asking him if the Flames were out looking for defenseman, after a discussion about Giordano. So it was in that context that Allen was brought up, not some narrative of "oh we need a Wotherspoon replacement in Adirondack." But by all means continue pretending you're so much more level headed and clever than everyone else.

Regardless of context, the reactions are ridiculous. Do you actually think the Flames will give up anything of value for Allen? If not, then calm down.

So you're reading between the lines. If Gio is out the Flames need a defenseman, just because Friedman hears the Flames are linked to a player does not mean he knows their intentions for that player.

Well Englland was considered the worst signing of 2014. Burke let Cammy walk for nothing. Im still waiting for some Treliving / Burke brilliance. He hasnt really done much so far, so no it wouldnt surprise me if we ended up on the short end of another deal or signing.

What did that Brodie extension cost again?

Its great but thats one facet of the job. Id like to see more from him on the aquisition side. You need more than 1 value signing to keep your job in the NHL.

Year 2 of a rebuild requires filler contracts.

He's been on the job for less than a year / season.
Overreact much?

Treliving was not willing to give out term to any of these "filler" signings ie. Engelland. That is important to note.
He has done some good things and some underwhelming things, but I would tend to view the latter as not being detrimental to the long term plan so not really sure what you're becoming so negative about. I think we probably agree in that we need more time in order to effectively evaluate him. He's going to be our GM through this rebuild and so there will be a lot of material on which to do so, when we look back in 3 years.

I'm not going to lie, I agree with Psytic. Treliving has been a terrible GM! I expected the Flames to win the cup by January and it's almost March!

I would love Allen on the team. BIG STRONG TRUCULENT. Most importantly, he's truculent. Man is he ever truculent. His truculence knows no bounds. I think he'd immediately step in and make a huge impact on the team. I've also heard he's a really great guy in the locker room, so he'll help mentor our younger players like Baertschi and Gaudreau that need to play with more of an edge (i.e., truculence). I only see upside to us getting this gem of a truculent player.

Friedman: Flames linked to Bryan Allen
Perhaps one of those "for future considerations" deals? To those in panic mode, have you heard from management that they are in fact interested, and also that Allen is guaranteed minutes on the big club and not down in Addy? There's the possibility they are simply addressing the hole created by Potter/T-Spoon's callups.. You know, not decimating the lineup and indirectly, morale of the club which is currently the main stage as far as future Flames development goes.
I doubt this will shake down to be one of our memorable / impact moves from this deadline .. If it ever even materializes.
Edit- On that note, what the heck does "for future considerations" even mean? Literally the bag of pucks fans always reference? I thought the details of a trade had to be submitted and approved by the league by Monday?

Guess GMs are like drafts, can't judge them until years afterwards. Right?
This deadline will be the first real test for our freshman GM. CPers have a right to be concerned, IMO. Treliving's biggest trade was what? Knight for Shore?

If these are the best two examples you can find to cherry pick to justify a position of concern, then I think we are in pretty good shape.
