don't get too caught up on it... sounds like 7d is still an option Hartley is considering and Wotherspoon might still draw in.

Poirier has not produced multiple points in 2 games with limited ice time with limited line mates. Better give him the Sven treatment.

I can see both Potter and Wotherspoon dressing. Both guys haven't played an NHL game all season, and even though I think Wotherspoon could step into the second pairing, it would be a challenge to have him log that many minutes right off the hop.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Forward lines might be altered as we move deeper into practice, too. Poirier getting more and more reps in. Will find out soon, I'd think.

Or you could call it the Johnny treatment. Now that he has his feet wet, let him watch a game from above and get a better sense for time and space.

I think pairing Brodie with Engelland is a good idea.
Russell - Wideman
Brodie - Engelland/Potter
Wotherspoon - Diaz

Engelland needs to play with a good pick mover so Brodie makes sense in that regard. Will be interesting to see if he can step up.
IIRC he was praised in Pittsburgh for stepping up when they were hit with injuries to all their dmen a couple years back.

Corey Potter has played six hockey games the last 76 days. Call me surprised (or shocked, more so) if they use him over Tyler Wotherspoon.

Last year's "brawl game" against Vancouver (includes overtime):
Wideman - 38:05
Brodie - 35:42
Gio - 33:32
SOB - 21:26
Like the Canucks game last year, is this another turning point in the season? In the face of adversity, does this team have that "extra gear" to push forward?

I agree.
Engelland is going to have to play more minutes. His #1 problem is getting the puck up to the forwards (his defensive play is fine). Brodie is a great partner for him, just get the puck over to Brodie and let him move it up.
If pairing with Brodie makes Engelland better, and able to play more minutes, that helps their overall D situation immensely.

Let's just hope Engelland limits his brain farts.

I think Engelland has done a decent job ever since Diaz has been paired with him. With Smid, we were all holding our breath.

Every time I see them, they just pop out of the screen so nicely. Some might say they are retro, to me they just feel timeless. Forget the hokey-pokey 3rd jersey, put them up against even our regular jerseys, and they just have so much energy. Our current reds look muddy in comparison.
I still think with a little bit of refinement (i.e. the logo is about 10% too big), these should be the permanent jersey.

Good call. I posted this when we signed him but for a little over a month last year (late November to early January), he regularly played 20+ shifts for the Pens, and was around 17 to 22 minutes per game. +2 during that stretch.

7D? I say hell no. When guys constantly get rotated with different players it kills the flow. That's just my own experience and opinion.

Engelland has some experience playing forward too, I'd be fine with playing 7 D.

Except that he will return to 8:30 on the 4th line with zero power play time. This is not going to be a Gaudreau situation.

I don't think it's a good idea. As great as Brodie is I can't see Engelland fairing well against top lines for a full game. I would have gone with this:
Russell - Brodie
Diaz -Wideman
Wotherspoon - Engelland
