Ortio out 6-8 weeks with high ankle sprain
Well I guess Ramo is definitely staying now
@AHLFlames: Goaltender Joni Ortio helped off with an injury. On comes Brad Thiessen. #ADKvsOKC
@AAVickers: Joni Ortio out 6-8 weeks with a lower body (high ankle sprain) injury, according to Brad Treliving. #Flames

Reported to be a leg injury. He was favouring his leg getting off the ice.
Yakimov just blew through him. Didn't make any attempt to stop, went through Ortio and knocked the net off the moorings. Hopefully it's reviewed because there was zero attempt to avoid hitting him and very intentional.

Did anyone make him pay for it?

He was taken down hard on a breakaway in the 2nd and the refs didn't make a call. That was it.
Yakimov also just scored the OT winner against the Flames. So first he injures Ortio, then he beats us.

For #Flames fans wondering about G Joni Ortio, who was injured tonight in AHL action ... It's a lower-body injury. Re-evaluated tomorrow.

per the AHL transactions page Doug Carr was called up to Adirondack... means Ortio will miss some time

I don't think the move necessarily means that Ortio is out for any time.
The Eagles have 3 games in 3 nights right now through Southern California. Probably calling him up now to get him to OKC in case he's needed for tomorrow nights game rather then having him travel with the team and potentially have him called last minute leaving the Eagles without a goalie for that game.
What a blow if Ortio is gone for any length of time though. Flames drop out of a playoff spot, drop to 3rd in the division and Huska was saying in the pre-game interview tonight that he challenged Ortio to be their best player and to step things up and steal games for them because the felt his performance was what would pull them out of this slide.

This may help settle Ramo down a bit. He's had to look at competition from 2 sides. Hopefully he displays better down the stretch

This is why I was saying trading Ramo made no sense, obviously the injury would not have happened, Orts would be with the team here, but we show strength in the depth of our goalies this year so why make that deal??

For long term gain versus short term insurance.

So Yakimov runs our #1 prospect goalie, knocks him out for 6-8 weeks, and then scores the OT winner.
Go ahead and dress Gillies IMO, and take his leash off. If he's gonna bounce a guys coconut off the ice, can't think of someone more deserving.

That sucks. I figured for sure that the Flames would trade Ramo at the deadline (since he's a UFA this summer) and bring Ortio up.
Now Ramo will just walk this summer and we get nothing.
