If there are 15 teams interested we might be surprised at how good the return is. If they can even get 2 or 3 teams bidding against each other a late 1st rounder wouldn't be out of the question.

With how shallow the FA market is in 2015, something tells me a team that acquires him intend to re-sign him.

It will be interesting to see how the young core reacts to one of the guys getting traded out too. For some of them it will be the first real taste of a bigger trade. Cammy walked, but that was obviously coming and didn't happen in a trade.

Scoring Winger
|
I've changed my mind somewhat. I wanted to keep Glencross initially, but the more I think about it, the less it makes sense. This is not Jarome Iginla or Jay Bouwmeester we are talking about here. Curtis Glencross is at best a 2nd line winger, at worst a 3rd line winger. His impact staying or leaving the team should be minimal.
I think Curtis Glencross is good for about 5 goals more than whoever his replacement is. I like Granlund, Wolf, Poirier, *young player we trade for*, etc... but I still think Glencross is a better goal scorer at this point. Glencross is a streaky player whose shooting percentage is down almost 5% from his career average. He's going to get a couple more goals before the season is over.
If 5 goals, or whatever Glencross' increased production ends up being is the difference between us making or not making the playoffs, we really don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
Also, looking at the so called trade bait list, I don't see many high profile wingers. I see guys like Daniel Winnik, Jiri Tlusty, and Chris Stewart. Glencross is a better player than all of them. People might be surprised at the return we can get for Glencross.
Finally, my most important point. I really enjoyed watching Glencross play here. People will probably associate him as a the face of the "we should have rebuilded sooner" era. I think he has been a good player for the majority of his time here.
And lets not forgot, he was a free asset. He got burned by the Oilers and burned them every time we played them. He is yet another in a long list of players mismanaged by the Oilers. It really is salt in the wound that has had such a productive career with Calgary over the years.
He has 240 points in 7 injury plagued seasons. I honestly don't know what more you guys want from a player who has never made more than 2.55 million/year with the Flames. I wish him nothing but good luck wherever he ends up (and we know it won't be Edmonton )

The return could be something like a conditional pick plus a prospect?

Yep, he for sure can do that. It would be his right.
However, let's take a look at how the Flames handled two very important pieces (who were both much more loved here) in the past:
Iginla: From everything I read, it seemed that Iginla was asked to provide a list of 4 teams that the Flames could then start negotiating from. Feaster seemed to be under the assumption that Iginla was willing to go to any of the 4. However, it seemed that the Flames didn't get Iginla to sign-off on that list, and seemed to give Iginla the benefit of the doubt. In the end, Iginla chose the team that he thought he would have the best chance with. Given his history on the Flames, and what he meant to the team - I can understand how it was handled.
Regehr: He was given simply one and only one option. He didn't even sign-off on any list, apparently. Flames announced the trade PRIOR to Regehr agreeing to it. I thought it was kind of a dirty tactic on Feaster's part, but it resulted in Regehr indeed going to the destination that the Flames desired.
I think the Flames were perhaps too accommodating with Iginla, and too hard with Regehr. Somewhere in the middle sounds about right and still being fair to Glencross - he has submitted his preferred destinations after-all. This is what should have happened with Iginla.
Ken King stated as much after the Iginla trade went down (something along the lines of "yes, we might have made a mistake" and "we should have gotten the sign-off" or something very similar)..

They'll be fine. Some predicted a demise of Monahan's mental health because his bff was sent down to the minors.

I don't think Nashville does this without Calgary adding a prospect, but it's an interesting idea. Would give them the space to re-sign Franson in the summer.

Glencross' comments about how he hasn't been utilized properly, that trade rumors are tough on his family, along with his often half assed efforts really highlight where his head is at. He has a job in the league because he is full of natural talent and because playing hockey was something he could do that didn't interfere with his other passions. I have no doubt this game is a means to allowing him to do other things in life (ranching, provide for his family, etc.), and I really question how much he loves the everyday life of an NHLer.
Sad to think he's been a Flame for all this time simply because it was a convinient lifestyle choice.
He'll have a major life decision to make this summer once he realizes he's already been traded away from both Alberta teams.

Of course. Feaster should have got it in writing, Iginla shouldn't have been so sneaky. Both of these are statements I'm comfortable with.

Yes and no? Taking a bad contract and sending Glencross back with retained salary as Handgroen noted above, that helps a GM to buy a lot of time, no? It's short term plug with long term cap relief. Treliving could sell it that way. Based on Glencross' list, I could probably believe that if Treliving changed the angle, he could probably get a reasonable offer from all the teams on the list either by saying cap dump plus short term stopgap or rental for depth in the playoffs.
That, and Treliving isn't desperate to move Glencross means that he likely will not take a lowball offer for him? This part is more important because it theoretically allows him to walk to the table in a position of power.
Purely guessing from me, but it makes me feel better there are many more options for Glencross this year than Cammellari last year.

Montreal might be a good match. He'd slot in well with Brandon Prust as that 3rd line right wing, either or pushing one down the line up, but Glencross with the ability to move up if he gets hot. Good depth addition for a team making a legit drive.

Listening to local radio here, Glencross is exactly the year of guy Montreal fans and media think the Habs need.
Let's take Tinordi in return

I am hoping we can possibly unload a decent prospect to move up a draft pick. Glencross + a lesser prospect for a 1st would make my day.
Ideally, I am thinking a 2nd rounder and a prospect for Glencross makes sense. If the other team wants a conditional pick if Glencross doesn't re-sign with them, I think Treliving should ask for more.

Subban got hurt last night and they recalled Tinordi. Doubt they intend to move him.
