It's definitely a great shot. It's just from a ways out and from a sharp angle. But Kenins deserves credit for the shot.

that is a terrible goal its a shot from the boards and has no business going in, Ramo himself would tell you that

I think the question is does the insurance of having a more mature, veteran backup goalie in Ramo (who could shoulder the pressure of having to step up should an injury occur leading up to or in the playoffs to Hiller) outweigh the mid round pick he will attain at the deadline? I think Ortio is the future but I also think that mid-round pick isn't worth as much as the depth Ramo gives us right now, especially as we push for a playoff spot. His 9-5-1 record speaks to that.

If Calgary is entering a playoff round without Hiller, I'm more comfortable with Ortio as the #1 than Ramo.

Ortio, this year: 4-1, .938 SV%, 1.98 GAA

Ramo, this year: 9-5-1, .904SV%, 2.69 GAA

That is such a small sample size to go off of. Remember how great Ortio looked in that one loss?? Based on organizational needs its probably better for the Flames to let Ortio go on a run as a starter with his club in A. Even past that say we do trade Rams and Ortio replaces an injured Hiller?? What if Ortio gets shelled? Who replaces him then? Carr? Thiesen? Right now the foolish thing to do would be to deal away an area of strength for a weak return which is what trading Ramo for a 3rd would be.

He actually looked fine in the loss; I'm not sure how you blame him for those goals.

Im not sure how you blame Ramo for the 2 of the three last night...

I guarentee Brad won't trade Ramo outside of an overpayment. It would be foolish to do so for a minimal return as our strength thus far has been built around solid goalie depth and that includes Ortio. He also looked extremely poor on the 4-0 goal that yanked him that game though I think overall Ortio will be the better goalie than Ramo as the seasons play out. Ramo has looked stellar when his game is on and he has a couple of shutouts and 9 wins to prove that. Plus he hasn't pouted or been a distraction at all this year and is widely regarded as one of the hardest workers in practice by his coach. I think trading him because he let 3 goals in against Boston is a immature outlook and Im sure the Flames brass would agree.

I think that if you can get a 3rd for Ramo, you do it.
Of course if we make the playoffs, it would be nice to have a backup goaltender with NHL experience, so we will have to trade for a goalie like Ramo, maybe for a 2nd.

So the ideal scenario would be to trade Ramo for a 3rd, and then look for a team with a Ramo, and offer a 2nd. But we would have to do it now, for it to make sense.

I don't think this makes any sense at all. For one we would have to find a goalie with the same term as Ramo for it to make sense as we are wanting Ortio to take Ramo's starts next year. Second you would most likely be trading Ramo to a team that needs him like NYR or maybe Nashville which means a weaker 3rd round pick. Lastly we would be swapping a potential mid round 2nd round pick for a goalie that gives us exactly what Ramo would be giving us if we didn't trade him at all. This team finally stopped trading 2nd round picks the last few years and to trade one for something we already have makes little to no sense at all.

Guess what? Ramo played a stretch of six straight games this season with a record of 6-0, .936 SV%, 1.82 GAA, and back-to-back shutouts .

I am excited about Ortio, but the sample size is too small.

Ridiculous the hate Ramo gets for only playing two games since early December. He is a good goalie. Before he got hurt, I would argue he has been just as good as Hiller. Last night he made some huge saves. Plus, why trade Ramo and bring up Ortio to sit on the bench?

Is Calgary going to re-sign Ramo?

Are they going to trade Hiller?

If the answer to those two questions is no...

Ortio goes to a one way contract next year. He's coming up IMO.
Ramo is a UFA and Hiller will have a year left IIRC. Management clearly thinks it will be Hiller/Ortio.

Hartley clearly regards Hiller as the number one. So the question is, do you get something for the backup or risk losing him for nothing, just to protect the games he may play from here on out, which IMO will be minimal.

I don't think he's let in 26+ bad ones this year. Unless our definition of bad goals is vastly different.

Again. So???

It makes no sense for us to deal Ramo right now. We have no rush to bring Ortio up this year. Ramo and Hiller have been a great tandem through out the year, both taking the reigns at different points of the season. Ramo is worth more to us currently than the mid pick be would garner could be to us even in the next 5 years let alone right now.

Then what?

The Flames exchange the possibility of a late round pick (probably third or fourth round) for a backup goalie heading into the playoffs. This is a great trade off as far as I am concerned, even in the light of the fact that Ramo is likely lost to free agency this summer.
