Default Forgotten phone password.

O.K, i am an idiot. A complete dolt to be honest. Today i decided to change my phone password while i was at work. Problem is, i have completely forgotten what i have changed it to, seriously I'm sitting at like 300 failed attempts to unlock the damn thing.

I know next to nothing about technology so I came home and googled it, and watched a few videos and downloaded a few things tried to do this weird ADB command prompt thing which did not work, because i don't have USB debbuging enabled on my phone. I have come to the conclusion that i will have to wipe the phone.

My question is, is there ANY way for me to somehow pull up my contact list from my computer? My USB connection state is on MTP (media device) and i cant seem to find any of the files from my phone on my computer. I know this is probably a stupid question and forgive me in advance.

I have a HTC ONE M8 btw, running android 5.01

You might be able to, if your phone is connected to a gmail account. Perhaps use that account to see if you can somehow recover the phone or reset the pin? That... or maybe there's a backup of your phone + contact list attached to the gmail playstore account?

Sorry, I don't use android and can't be much more helpful.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5? That's amazing! I've got the same combination on my luggage!

You dont have your contact list sync'd to your Google account? Or your SIM card? Rookie mistake.

DoubleF is right though - if you login to Gmail - check your contacts - it should be the same as your phone ones (if you have it sync'd). If not, I think you are probably screwed. Dont wipe it yet until more people here chime in, we got some smart dudes in here.

EDIT: try this? Has rooted and non-rooted options (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2225695)

found this:

To get it works;
-need a google account
-Your phone must be already in wifi or mobile network.

You have to log in your google account (on pc) and go to playstore (or "play"). then you click on the setting icon and select the "android device manager". Once got in, you'll be able to "lock" your phone (a security option normaly in case of stolen phone) it will let you reset your password without the obligation to enter your old one.

You should also be able to reset your phone password through OWA, if you have it set up with Active Sync.

Ask your IT guys.
