Really apart from Johnny, the Flames don't have an asset other than Bennett that would make sense - so its either Bennett or bust from WPG POV.
The worst thing The Peg can do here is trade quality for quantity. That is something like Sven+2nd+Janko would NOT be a deal they should do.
So without that - what type of deal do you make? Calgary just doesn't have the type of assets that make a deal like this happen, apart from Bennett (or Monny I guess).

There is no question that Kane has oodles of talent. But he is also lazy, moody and inconsistent. I don't know a single Jets fan that can't wait to get rid of him.
To put his career into perspective, Glencross is an interesting comparison, actually. Obviously Kane is younger and has more upside, but I think some of you are judging based on highlight reels.
Let's ignore Kane's rookie season and compare the last 5 years for Glencross and Kane (games, goals, assists, points):
Kane......: 295 / 95 / 101 / 196
Glencross: 268 / 85 / 82 / 167
per game %ages:
Kane......: 0.32 / 0.34 / 0.66
Glencross: 0.32 / 0.31 / 0.62
and projecting to an 82 game schedule:
Kane......: 26 / 28 / 54
Glencross: 26 / 25 / 51
Basically, for the past 5 seasons, Kane has produced at a similar pace to Glencross, providing the same goals per game, and tossing in 3 extra assists every 82 games.
Again, he has lots of upside and can be a beast when he feels like it, but his overall game is inconsistent, has had some injuries, is lazy, and produces at a decent 2nd/ excellent 3rd line winger pace - just like Glencross.

I'd bet he would laugh himself into a hernia, then go to the team doctors to fix it and they'd have to suspend his surgery because he'd still be laughing even under anesthetic.

Poirier + our first(assuming it's ~17) would be a pretty competitive offer I would think. Whether the Flames want to offer that or not is a different story, but it would give the Jets a very good prospect ready to step in and a high pick. Can't ask for much more.

Amazing considering how much grief Glencross gets, especially making $2.5M a year
Wouldnt touch Kane at the expense of our top pics period...

Not that I think anyone ought to give up something crazy for him but that's not true... Kane has played in 361 career games and he's scored 109 goals that give him a career G/82GP of 24.764.

I have no worries about treliving with proposals like this. No way he would ever trade Bennett for E. Kane. I just hope treliving and Burke are smart enough to avoid these phaneuf, Kane, kessel, etc. types of trades all together.
This rebuild is going great so far and we all just want to see it stay the course. No need to trade prospects and picks for reclamation projects. It's so much more exciting seeing this team draft and develop these kids. That includes guys like poirier, baertschi, klimchuk, Wotherspoon, etc. Even a guy like jankowski (who so many people like to toss around in trade proposals) is a young player I want to see the team just continue to develop and see where it goes. So many trade proposals people like to suggest has those guys involved. I know you can't make a trade without giving up something of value but everyone has to remember this is still a rebuild. I hope no trades at all are made by the flames this season but if it has to happen I don't want to see these improving young players as part of any trades.

Jets would be far wiser to wait until the off season. The scandal will have died down, the trade would be for a Kane who can play, not one going into surgery, and you will have a bunch of teams who just missed or got only one round who figure they are short some scoring.

I have Monahan at 128 games with 39 goals. That is 24.984 G/82GP.

Yeah, except they're in a dogfight for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. And they're in that fight right now. They need help. Right now.

Last ten games or so they've played better without him than with him.
If they traded for a Bennett they wouldn't get help right now, either. He could still be a month away, and probably at least two weeks.

I don't think you can trade a player on injured reserve can you? Kane wouldn't pass the league mandated physicals.

You can. You just need to disclose all medical data or there could be grounds to overturn the trade down the line.
