Raymond had ten feet on that Jets defender and gaining. That guy wasn't a factor as he was trying to get position on Sven anyways. Sven was skating for his own lane at the net for a pass/rebound. I saw no issue with that play

If Sven wanted to go to the net he would of skated towards the net. He wouldn't put one arm in front of the defenseman who was skating towards the puck...

Regardless if the guy had enough gas to get to the puck or not, Baertchi made a very smart play. I'm not trying to blow this thing out of proportion, but credit where credit is due.

It was the kind of game by Sven that gives you confidence in his on-going development and his future with this club. He played very relaxed, was focused and involved in every shift and responded with the right attitude after getting called for duty.

Hope he can continue to build on it whether in the A or the big team.

So I found this write up, pretty much encapsulates why I dislike advanced stats. All but said we were lucky to win last night.

I actually rarely comment on Svens game, just people's reactions to his handling. I also didn't say Sven didn't have a good game. Sven was 100% ok last night. But that is all. Some else asked me what my expectations of him are, if say I dont have a high bar at the moment, just want him to get better. But I wonder what others expectations are of him, cause lots of people really looking hard for reasons to say he had s good game. Just look at what's being debated for plays he made in here right now, it's prouf positive that many are just looking for an excuse to say he showed what've needs to to stick.

The truth is, Sven was decent last night, didn't hurt us. But he also only delivered a performance that is suggest about 5 other guys on the farm could equal right now. That's not yet making a mark or a case that he's ready for full time NHL duties.

Sven was close to invisible last night other than a debatable pick that did lead to a goal. Which is both good and bad. Invisible means he's not making any mistakes that are leading to goals or scoring chances against. Invisible also means he's not creating much.

I'd say the former is table stakes for making this team. Starting to become "less" invisible in the positive way is what he needs to work towards to eventually have a permanent role on the team.

When you watch a game like that, and then look at the numbers, your conclusion shouldn't be to change your opinion of the game, it should be to question why the numbers paint such a different picture.

Not what I read into it.

I read into it that with healthy Backlund and Wotherspoon replacing Engelland, and Baertschi in for Bollig we are the President's Trophy/Stanley Cup favorite.

at this point i'm wondering if anyone who wins advanced stats actually wins the game. It seems like every time calgary wins advanced stats say they should have lost, and every time calgary loses advanced stats say they should have won.

Fair enough, but when the stats are used so predominantly to make the same conclusion over and over its hard not to direct some scorn on the stats themselves.

Ya I had nothing to say about the player evaluations. Gio is as dominant in stats as the eye test. Thought Baertchi had a good game.

I thought Hudler wasn't quite himself though but the stats said he did great so I don't know.
