So sick of jerseytoss talk.
Good article on TSN listing all of the boneheaded moves made by Leafs management in the past 10 years.

http://www.tsn.ca/management-failure...state-1.187809

The 3 moves that hurt this team the most in my opinion:

Quote:
Later in the summer of 2006, Ferguson pulled the trigger on the disastrous trade that would come to define his tenure. Believing Pogge to be the future at that position with the Leafs, Ferguson inexplicably sent former first rounder Tuukka Rask to Boston for a goaltender in Andrew Raycroft, who owned an .879 save percentage in his final season with the Bruins.

Rask went on to to win a Vezina Trophy in Beantown.
Quote:
Continuing an ugly trend of decisions made in an interim capacity that winter, Fletcher opted to send former first rounder Alex Steen (and Carlo Colaiacovo) to St. Louis for Lee Stempniak. Stempniak hadn't scored more than 20 goals in a few years and never has again. He was eventually traded to Calgary.

Steen, meanwhile, went on to great success as a Blue, scoring 33 goals last season.
Quote:
Nonis then employed the first of two compliance buyouts on Komisarek, later parting with Mikhail Grabovski in the same such manner. Grabovski, who clashed with Carlyle, was an asset surrendered for nothing.
The freed up money was used to re-sign Tyler Bozak to a five-year deal and then David Clarkson to an exorbitant seven-year deal.

It always shocks me when I'm reminded that David Clarkson got a seven year deal.

And at 5.25 million a year too! Honestly, the moves they make are so obviously bad to everyone except management. Plus this offseason Nonis tried to sign Bolland to a ridiculous contract and tried to trade Franson for Gorges but Gorges vetoed it. Franson has been one of the few bright spots this season while Gorges has been brutal for Buffalo. This team...kill me.

The other leaf move was that they cleared our their roster to sign the Sedins and went all in on them (remember Burke being in Sweden in case they wanted to meet moments after becoming a free agent)? Gillis re-signed them at the last minute and the leafs were left signing Jonas Guvtasson.

When that plan didn't work out they didn't really adjust that well.

Wow, quite the serious QOTD poll at the end of this article:

Which team's roster would you rather have?

-Toronto Maple Leafs (18%)
or
-Edmonton Oilers (82%)

both are no good.

Toronto fans probably still think Eberle, Hallsy, Nuge, Yak and Justin Norris are awesome.

I'd much rather take the Leafs as a starting point...Clarkson is the only real boat anchor, and Toronto is at least has capable NHL goaltenders, defencemen and centres to start from. Even if the oil landed a McEichel, I'd still take Toronto.

Toronto's losing streak is just more fresh than the Oilers much longer streak. Take that poll again after Toronto wins two in a row and it will totally revert.

I don't think it is too late yet for the Leafs to tank and get in a good position to have a chance at McDavid or Eichel. If they could get a couple decent guys in a Kessel trade and get either of those draft prospects they could have a pretty good team.

:
Anyone who thinks Doug Risebrough was a bad GM (and he was) ought to take a gander at JFJ's record with the leafs:

He dealt away three first-rounders, three seconds and Tukkaa Rask. To show for that he had Andrew Raycroft, Vesa Toskala, Owen Nolan, and two over-the-hill guys in Glen Wesley & Brian Leetch (who played all of 28 games with the leafs).

And those are just some of his mistakes. Hilarious!

The 3 moves that hurt this team the most in my opinion:
I do think Bozak is better than Grabovski. He's cheaper and has better stats. Grabovsi became a #3 centre in Toronto making 5.5 million. His value was very low when they bought-him-out.

He's has more ice time and pp too because Grabovski plays behind a player called Tavares

In Grabovski's last season in Toronto, he was the 3rd line centre. He was behind Bozak.

I agree with most of the listings in the article, but trying to paint getting rid of Grabovski as some huge error is silly.

The one season the team had success with Grabovski on the team was the one year he had a bottom 6 role.

The entire team is struggling offensively, That does not mean Grabovski is better. Bozak has been clearly the better player the last 3 straight seasons.

Burke was actually in Swden to talk to Gustavsson. (But yes, he would have made a play no doubt). Gustavsson was going to be signed regardless.
