Quick question about upgrading an exotic.

I was blessed to receive the Hawkmoon hand cannon pretty early on. It has a max attack of 300 because I got it before the DLC. Today I went and saw Xur and he's selling the Hawkmoon upgrade to 331, but it comes with a pretty significant range decrease.

The majority of my play is pvp, so I'm thinking about not upgrading it and keeping the extra range. The reduced extra attack damage doesn't matter because it's all leveled out in pvp (I think...not including Iron Banner).

Does this make sense, or am I missing something?

The range decrease is probably because you're comparing it to the zero exp upgraded version. You will still have the same upgrades to give the same attributes after you upgrade it. If you have an exotic shard to spare with glimmer and time to level it again, go ahead. Otherwise there is no benefit for 331 max attack other than iron banner.

I think you're right. I was looking at the upgrade tree and there's a "Hammer Forged" upgrade that gives improved range and accuracy.

Damn...I'm 2 coins short to upgrade it. What's the best way to get coins quickly these days?

Weekly Heroic Strike if you haven't done it once this week. Other than that, you can farm public events and hope for coins, or do Roc Strikes for the engrams which have a chance of decrpyting into coins

Nickerjones10 on XB1. I'm at 26 and can't find any new gear to get to 27 to be able to do the high level strikes. If anyone wants to join up and play with m as I grind through trying to find that couple more light pieces that would be awesome!

Grind roc strikes for blue engrams if you've already done the weekly mission.

Use Destiny lfg or the destiny app to find a few people to help. If you let them know you're just looking for some help to grab coins, you'll have a team in no time.

I have to say it is very satisfying beating Crota while actually being the one who is wielding the sword and slamming it into his head, lol. After completing normal mode we came so close to beating him on HM but the auto enrage along with those hallowed wizards are pretty tough but it's still a lot fun.

8 hours, 1000 glitches and screw ups and and three groups but Crota hard mode done! Word of Crota as a reward and heading to bed with a smile ear to ear

Xur has an exotic helmet engram for 23 motes of light. I just bought one and it turned out to be an insurmountable skullfort, perfect for my titan. Got me to 27.

Hey, I got skullfort for my titan too! Not sure if I'll use it over my glasshouse often, but it looks way better. Maybe it'll be helpful in hm crota, with the health regeneration.

After 20 all progression is by equipping items with Light.
