No reason to change things. Send him back down and let him start the bulk of the games for ADK. A prospect like this isn't going to benefit from playing once every week at the most in a three goalie rotation. If all goes well he is filling Ramo's shoes next year.

Don't trade either Ramo or Hiller straight up. Put one in a package deal with some forward if we want to get a young, quality top 4 D-man. What I saw from Ortio the other day wasn't the shutout, it was the confidence-inspiring fundamentals.

It's not a big deal if we make or barely miss the playoffs this year (we could end up with a good prospect even at 10-15) but building a winning culture requires players who feel they can win every night, and Ortio will probably give them a better opportunity at that development as they will make a few mistakes now and then. I prefer Hiller over Ramo personally, but it's not such a huge difference that you make a big deal out of it - let the buyer decide which goaltender they want.

I'd say it's reasonable to assume that the value for either of Ramo or Hiller is likely a 3rd round pick. See Scrivens/Fasth/Bryzgalov/etc.

Assuming that value is correct, I vote to send down Ortio, and finish the season with Hiller + Ramo. Yes, we very well may lose Ramo in the summer for nothing, but a 3rd round pick at the deadline isn't enough value that you risk trading the wrong goaltender. IMO, neither of the 2 has proven themself to be better than the other, and so we should use these last 39 games to figure out who that is.

Ortio plays role of backup next season.

I voted to send Ortio down, but now that I think about it it seems more like a Hartley/Treliving thing to do to keep Ortio up for another game or two first, even if it means temporarily carrying three goalies.

I'm excited by how few rebounds Ortio gives up in comparison to Hiller/Ramo.

I'll say that much. But why rush him in now? Might as well use the rest of the season to figure out who deserves to stay, and deal the other at the draft.

I think Hiller has been pretty good this year, aside from that last game against the Panthers. He's won us more games than he's lost us, and unfortunately for Ramo he's lost us more than he's won us (Rangers game, Sabres game). Don't know why some people want to trade him, but that's their opinion I guess.

Ortio will be sent down, but I'd like to see Ramo dealt at the deadline and have Ortio back up.

I have to hold my breath every time the other team takes a shot on Hiller... For example the Florida game he should have had most of those goals.

I think despite Hiller being the better goaltender some fans are more attached to Ramo because he's been part of the organization longer and Feaster hyped him up somewhat prior to his arrival.

I trust Ramo in net more than Hiller. And he's younger. I'd rather keep him.

Fans always latch on to the underdog back up, too.

Yeah but you aren't the head coach that trusts Hiller more or the GM that signed Hiller to a two year deal.

With goaltending being relatively easier to come by these days I don't know if Ramo has done enough to supplant Hiller from the #1 role. Hiller has his ups and downs but he's also been the better of the two. With Ortio being the youngest and looking really close to being an NHL regular I thin we'll see Ramo get traded or simply not re-signed at the end of the season.

Gillies looks like he could turn pro at the end of his season with the year he is having and will take the lead role on the farm leaving Ortio free to battle it out with Hiller next year for #1.

I've noticed whenever Ramo is in net, folks want Hiller and vice versa. I've noticed that even the criticisms are the same "I feel better with ___ in net. He's steadier and doesn't slide/flop around as much."

Ramo was great last half of last season, and at the beginning of this season. However, IMO Hiller looked steadier for the rest of this season. When Hiller started to slide I wondered if Ramo would regain his steadiness and take over again, but it didn't happen. Then Ramo got sick and then injured. But in the game he got injured he wasn't looking great either.

I'm guessing this Ramo "trust" comes from his play early in the season. Check out his numbers from December onward. His play has tailed off considerably. Since the beginning of December:

Ramo - .872 sv%, 3.42 GAA
Hiller - .908 sv%, 2.45 GAA

How many starts has Ramo had since December? It doesn't feel like many.

seriously Hiller has been better than Ramo its not even a debate.

Ortio has played one game, looked good but lets take it easy here the guy was getting lit up in the AHL a couple months ago

So if he plays next game and lets in 5 goals is he gone?

I don't think you can judge 1 game.

Or perhaps some don't agree that Hiller is the better goaltender.

Hiller did have the much larger sample size in that month. Doesn't help Ramo's numbers when he got pulled against New York either. The Buffalo game he was downright awful too.
I still prefer Ramo, despite Decembers numbers. Its less to do with his play at the beginning of the season and more of a style preference. Also he is younger and could be cheaper to resign down the road.
