He's a proper legend in that his lasting legacy will be leading Liverpool to zero titles and the slip when they had one in their grasp. Like it or not. In twenty years time that's what he'll be remembered for by fans outside of Liverpool.

Players are remember for their actions, not exclusively for their results.

That's fair enough but his actions these last few days have been self seeking, needless and damaging to the club and his comments regarding Rodgers are confusing. Also like it or not when folks look back he will be (like it or not) remembered for "The Slip" that cost Liverpool the title.

Maybe you can answer why he would come out and say now that he would still be a Liverpool player if they had offered him a contract sooner? Absolutely pointless.
And why would he say great things about Rodgers (if he was at the club 10 years ago they would be discussing trophies now), only to then reveal that when the tenant manager he so admired sat down with him and discussed his and the clubs plans for the future he jumped ship?

Give it a rest. All he's done is given an interview in which he gave honest answers.

He's had a decorated career and will go down as one of Liverpool's greatest ever players.

Give it a rest? Boo bloody hoo. What? He's now beyond reproach? He's basically blaming the club for him leaving then in another interview backhandedly blames the managers of the last 10 years for him not winning PL titles.

Fact of the matter is, he's still a PL level footballer, albeit in a diminished role who is doing a runner for $ and an easy life. That's ok. He's entitled to do that. But own it instead of trying to blame the club for you leaving

He's needlessly stirring the pot to serve his own purpose. If he believed in Rodgers so much he'd be still hanging around. There is a lot he could still offer the club as a squad player.

Where is he blaming the club? You're pulling things out of his interviews that aren't there.

He said he doesn't want to become a squad player and is choosing to leave. That's really all there is to it. He said himself that there are no hard feelings and he doesn't blame anyone at the club for what's happening.

I would think so too, but that being said Madrid view it as their divine right to have the Spanish GK on their team over almost any other position. Unless DDG really forces it though I think they would be crazy to sell, DDG is already in that top group in the world with Neuer, Courtois, and Lloris. He could be the United keeper for another 15 years

Valdes at 32 as well would be a great replacement who has another 5-6 years left at the top level

... and speaking of Lampards club, they are about to shell out 30m for Wilfried Bony

Think Bony is a great signing for City, the type of striker they lack, him and Aguero would work well together

He said that he would have signed had they offered him a contract in the summer. Then he says he doesn't want to point the finger at anybody.

Sure, but he makes a good job of making sure the finger is pointing away from himself.

United have now confirmed the Valdes contract. One and a half years with an option for another year ... not a bad safety net to have in case De Gea leaves. Van Gaal says he'll be the number 2 goalkeeper (obviously).

Quote:
Manchester United is delighted to announce that Victor Valdes has signed an 18-month contract with the option to extend for a further year. Valdes, 32, came through the ranks of the FC Barcelona youth system, making his senior debut in 2002. He went on to win 21 major titles with the La Liga side. The Spanish international has 20 caps for his national team.

Victor Valdes said: "It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United. I would like to thank Louis van Gaal and the club for allowing me to do my rehabilitation and to train with the team at the Aon Training Complex. From my short time here I can already see this is a very special club. I worked with Louis van Gaal during my time at FC Barcelona and to have the opportunity to work with him here at Manchester United is a dream come true."

Louis van Gaal said: "I am delighted Victor has signed for the club. Victor is a very experienced goalkeeper and his record speaks for itself. I have said on many occasions that Manchester United will always be interested in the best players. Victor has remained very professional throughout his rehabilitation from injury and has been very impressive during his training sessions with the first team over the past weeks. He joins the club as the number two goalkeeper and is a great addition to the first team."

Meanwhile, the usually well-informed Andy Mitten says that extending De Geas contract is now a priority. About time.

The Premier League has confirmed that Frank Lampard is registered as a player solely with Manchester City. The league is also satisfied that the Premier League champions have not broken any rules over their signing of the former England midfielder.

Lampard, 36, was expected to join City's sister club New York City full-time this month having apparently been on loan in Manchester from the American outfit. But now it seems that Lampard, despite being announced as a New York signing last summer, has never signed any formal contract with the Major League Soccer newcomers.

Lampard had actually been on a short-term, full-time deal with City for the first half of the season and that was extended to the end of the campaign on New Year's Eve.

It means confusion remains over what exactly Lampard had agreed with NYCFC, who had publicly announced they expected the player to join up with them on January 1, while Lampard also fronted their season ticket marketing campaign. There have been suggestions that Lampard might actually have signed with the City Football Group - the parent company for both clubs - but the Premier League has indicated there is no provision for a move to NYCFC.

The league has looked into the matter, feeling it needed to ascertain who owned Lampard's contract to safeguard the integrity of its competition. And, despite the confusion, it has concluded nothing untoward has occurred.

Absolutely disgraceful officiating today. Completely decided the game. Not sure Spurs deserved all three, but they certainly should've had a point.

I am confused how no one saw the deliberate stomp on Lloris face

he was holding the ball, surely one of the officials has his eyes at that spot

Poch's sub was weird too, I get Capoue for Townsend if we are still 1 up

when they tie it off that dive in the box take off a midfielder not the winger

To be fair, I didn't see anything untoward but I wasn't at the ground and looking that closely to what was happening.
