Poor management is reaping what they sow. Fans aren't coming anymore, they're getting lambasted on the press and Katz is being vilified in Edmonton. We can't screw the fans to appease the rivals. The draft needs to remain the way it is going to be with a lottery to ensure integrity.

I suppose "reward" is the incorrect terminology, and I agree with you that it's the overall mismanagement of the prospects that's the real issue. And I agree that changing the draft system isn't the solution either.
I guess the frustration that I share with many on this board is that it's the continued mismanagement that allows the Oilers access to elite-level prospects at the drafts, while simultaneously preventing most of the other teams from having that same access. I'd be upset with ANY team behaving this way; the fact it's the Oilers just makes it easier to complain about
From a purely "venting" fan-perspective, it's hard not to wonder what a team like the Flames could have built having had the same draft-pick positions over the past few years...

I don't find this very amusing because I could sadly see something like that happening. MacT/Lowe will then tell the fans that we have a new Gretzky/Messier era in McDavid and Eichel.

Looking back at last season, Perron had 28 goals and 29 assists for the Oilers; numbers he is not even close to being on pace for this season. The move to the Pens is bound to revitalize him. It looks like a good move on their part to me. What has Edmonton really done with this trade though? Klinkhammer isn't going to give you that kind of production and it's a real gamble that a late 1st will turn into 50-60 point player. Worse, whatever it is that went on in Edmonton that sucked the life out of Perron will probably still be there when that draft pick arrives. If a veteran like Perron can't stay afloat, what chance does a rookie have?

I bet Perron will flourish with Pittsburg. Blake Comeau has and Perron is a lot better than Comeau. Put anyone with Crosby and Kunitz and they will score. A change of scenery is huge for skilled players. Good trade for Edmonton. They got a first round pick, which is a big step in their rebuild. They need to collect a few more prospects and picks yet, but one foot in the right direction.

The same chance Hallsy, Ebs, The Nuge, Drai and the Yak had.
And Cogs, Gags, MPS, Linesy, Schrempsy, Red Ox and MPS before them.
None at all.

I can see the tanktasic ones packaging a usable player/prospect and the late 1st for a BETTER 1st to try to improve the payout/odds for top 2 pick, for their pathetic (and IMO game fixingly illegal) tanking...
Klinkhammer did not impress in his cameo appearances with the 'Hawks...and was deemed expendable with the Forward Depth at the Rock...
As he is an upcoming UFA, one has to think that the #1 pick was really what the grease were after...Trading up to hedge their bet would make sense...(and make this fan sick, that tanking has it's rewards)

No, no, no. Resetting their rebuild of the previous adjustment in order to amend their revamp of the overhaul.

Everyone looks awful when they're an Oiler!
The only player not to be horrible as an Oiler - in recent memory - was Chris Pronger. And he GTFO of there after a year.

I heard that interview as well, the mighty Oil undoubtedly wanted Pouliot or Harrington as part of those negotiations but the Pen's were not giving any consideration to moving either of them in this deal.

I think value wise this is about right. And I don't have a problem with the Oil trading Perron - he wanted out and you can't have guys around that don't want to be there.
Really though this traded underscores the price you pay for terrible drafting.
MPS was drafted 10th overall
They traded him with a 2nd (33rd overall - ended up being Barbashev) for Perron
They now flipped Perron for a 2015 1st and Klinkhammer
So the asset management is the 10th overall pick+ 33rd for say a pick in the 25ish area+Klink.
No good.

It has to be noted that MPS was a waste of a top 10 pick which just goes to show how much of a chance the 25ish pick will live up to a bag of pucks. Honestly if I was Katz I would just purchase the THN draft issue and go right off that and make the picks myself over letting MacT, Lowe and their scouts waste the picks.

I can see where you're coming from here. I just look at Perron though: 26yo, just had the best year of his career and has a decent contract. From that perspective the deal looks to me like Edmonton traded away - or squandered by ruining - a part of a good rebuild. He even had a smidgen of playoff experience. It's just so backwards to gamble on a pick, whether they use the first from this deal to trade up or not. Heck, Perron was a 26th overall pick himself, about the same place that Pens 1st could land. What more did they want?

I know that Reg has been working extremely hard to take ownership of the slogan, but it makes me sad to see he's getting some traction.

MPS had a pretty solid rookie year, but hasn't replicated anything close since.

Haha fair, but having those picks weren't magic beans, they were legit seeds that the Oilers then turned into a manure farm.
Same deal this time, that pick is not a magic bean, but as a Flames fan it's nice to have some faith that they will find a way to waste it
