Gaudreau just see's everything on the ice as an opportunity to score including defender legs, nets, backboards, helmets.

In that respect, he reminds me of a more talented Huselius.

Remember how awesome Huselius was around the blue line?

Elusive and great playmaking for sure but I sure don't remember Makarov being small like Gaudreau? In fact I don't remember anyone ever being Gaudreau small, except coincidentally, fellow Flames Paul Biron and of course Fleury. Although Fleury was quite a bit stockier than those two.

Yeah Makarov was 5'11", could compare how they see the ice the same and the elusiveness.

One thing that I saw in Makarov was how fast he was without looking like he was putting in huge effort. I mean he was so smooth that it looked like he was floating on air. I remember going to the first two games the next season after winning the cup and seeing him put up about 6,7 or 8 points (memory may be playing games on me there but he was incredible!) I always said it would have been a treat to see him play in the NHL when he was younger.

Makarov was a highly skilled player as well, possibly one of the most skilled to have played the game, but he wasn't small. He was built like a tank and could take a ton of abuse. Gaudreau will never be like that. I don't think we'll ever find a comparable for Gaudreau. He is what he is and we've never seen a player like him before. We may never see another like him.

Someone compared him to Larionov which may be a better comparison, small (5' 9") talented playmaker, responsible defensively.

Joey Mullen is another player that Gaudreau resembles in some ways. He definitely had Gaudreau’s disadvantage in size: not quite as short, but the game was a lot more violent then, and he had to work hard to compensate in other ways.

I used to think Sven was the saviour. But it is now apparent that Johnny is the saviour who has returned

Default With the 104th overall pick, the Flames select LW John Gaudreau

That was an incredible performance from Johnny tonight. The look on his face of determination on the bench was awesome. Almost like he knew it was up to him do it. Put the team on his shoulders like he has for every team he's played for over his career. Even look at the takeaways he had in the game too. Or any time someone took the puck from him... He was determined to make up for it.

Can't wait for the flames to take on the oilers Saturday. That will feel so good to watch Johnny dismantle the worst defence in the league.

Thank you 104th pick Feaster. Thank you Hartley for giving the kid a chance and believing in Johnny after he was a healthy scratch in game 6 or whatever that game was.

I don't think Gaudreau is developed enough for the NHL

It has been an awesome ride so far following Gaudreau's progression from him being drafted by the Flames until now. Along the way, he has exceeded expectations at every level he's played at, be it college, WJC, World Championship, Flames rookie development camps, and now in the NHL. The kid has been an absolute treat to watch.
