That would certainly be unfortunate as a social conservative party has no chance of ever making any sort of push in an election.

I've said it previously but I'd like to see Manning align himself with the WRP. I think that he is the type of big name conservative and leader that the WRP would need in order to challenge Prentice.

I would like to see the Liberals voted in next election.

Cue the Oprah Gif "You are getting a GSA, and you are getting a GSA, you are ALL getting a GSA!"

James Wood@JamesWoodHerald

Support in PC caucus for this move was "overwhelming" but not unanimous, acknowledges Prentice #ableg

No, to be the official opposition, you should want to enact and contribute to the best policy for albertans.
Just playing Devil's Advocate here but isnt she enacting and contributing to the best policy for albertans by joining the PCs?

Under the Stelmach and Redford governments, there was much to argue against since both leaders brought the ruling PC party too far left. Now, under a Prentice government, he's brought the party back to its right. If his policies are in line with many Wildrose MLA's, what do you have to argue? For the 9 MLAs including Smith, isn't it mission accomplished?

You cant argue for the sake of arguing

I think it would have been much better for Prentice to accept all of them but Smith... Im guessing some of them wouldn't have crossed with that condition, but certainly some still would, and any number crossing would be a huge victory for the PCs.

Smith's career in politics has to be over after the next election??

Without a strong opposition party you may see a cease to an open and transparent govt. The PC's can go back to their entitlements and corruption without anyone to make them accountable. Time will tell on that.

Smith is a political opportunist who is only doing what she feels is best for her and be damned with what her constituents might think. She trashed her good friend Kerry Towle for crossing and now becomes a hypocrite for what she did.

Under the WRP all members were allowed a free vote and could say what they want. They won't get that under a Prentice govt.

Finally it sends a message to voters that your vote doesn't matter. Not good when you have low voting turn outs for elections.

She is my MLA and will a tough time selling her move to voters in the Highwood region. I won't be suckered into voting for her again.

My opinion is her political career will be over come next election.

Well there is no official opposition with any power now. How fast until the PCs run another corrupt government? The whole point of the process is that someone has to keep the ruling party in check.

Interesting to note that there are rumors it happened because Smith and her people believe they will get what they want while being part of the PC party.

Balanced budget ahead?

The scuttlebutt is that Smith will be given the Finance portfolio.

If I was Towle I would buy one of those Cards Against Humanity ####boxes and leave it on Smith's table in the Legislature.

Anyone want to start a political party with me. We'll call it the Angry part. If elected

We promise once a week to turn over a table in the legislature
When Smith stands up to talk we'll all make yaking motions with our fingers while rolling our eyes and yelling "Bwack Bwack Bwack"
Once a week we'll have a toga day where we show up in Toga's underwear optional.
Our press releases will always start with the phrase "What's up b%%ches"

I figure with that platform we can become the official opposition in the next election.
