If they hire a new coach from the outside, the New coach will have all the leverage.

Could you imagine them replacing another coach (sixth coach) since 2009?

No.

A new coach would realize that and could say a big 'F U' to management if they try and meddle in the coaching affairs.

Management is next to go, not another coach.

I think this just gives Dallas the opportunity to get his masters and come back as the new gm in a few years.

Averages for the last 4 coaches...

102G 35W 54L 13OTL .404W%

At 113 games, Eakins actually lasted longer than average. He also managed a slightly better W% than Quinn (.380 vs .378)

So another non-member of the old boys on the bus becomes the sacrificial lamb. Lowe and MacTavish safe in their positions. Pretty soon they won't be able to hire anyone who did not play with the Oilers in the 80's.

I can't wait to hear Mactavish throwing people under the bus now.

Coach Mactavish: "My difficulty coaching this team stems from the GM's inability to sign NHL level players." Translation: It's not my fault.

GM Mactavish responds to himself(?): "It is the coaches job to run the on-ice talent." Translation: It's not my fault.

Repeat Ad infinitum (or is that Ad nauseam?)

Fun fact:

The last 2 coaches to post a .500W% for the Oilers?: Lowe and MacTavish. Needless to say, they know a little something about winning!

@DarrenDreger
No way Eakins, MacTavish or anyone associated with the Oil 18 months ago would have anticipated the holes in their lineup now.

One of the reasons I'm happy to not have to tune into TSN for NHL games anymore. What a moron.

What about people outside the association?

CP figured this out years ago.

How could they not anticipate that? That team is hot garbage and Nikitin, Fayne and Purcell dont change that.

No kidding. Isn't it part of their job to anticipate that?

"We don't have any legit NHL centremen"

"Well I didn't see that coming"

If a gorilla with an unlimited supply of vodka had been running the Oilers for the last 7 years, really, how much worse would they be?

Stealing the perfect line from a movie for this.

[the Edmonton Oilers' GM calls formerly employed coach Paul McLean at Tire World to offer him a position with the Oilers]
Craig Mactavish: How would you like to coach the Oilers this year?
Paul Mclean: Gee, I don't know...
Craig Mactavish: What do you mean, you don't know? This is your chance to manage in the big leagues.
Paul Mcleain: Let me get back to you, will ya, Craig? I got a guy on the other line asking about some white walls.
