If Hartley can motivate Stewart and keep him hungry, it will be a huge win if the rumors are true (and I LOVE Reinhart - really think this kid will be a pretty good NHL player down the road). Even if it bombs, it won't be that bad - Reinhart (or other equitable prospect) will probably not really be all that missed with the Flames (though ADK will miss whomever it is). Not a bad gamble, at least not with Stewart having any term left.
The biggest danger I see is if the first Stewart shows up for the rest of the year, earns a nice fat contract with term from the Flames, and then shows up next year as Stewart #2. That is the biggest danger of a deal involving him. For this year, however, I don't think it is much of a risk, and this comes from someone who is very high on Reinhart.

Precisely why you pass on him. The risk far outweighs the reward.

with the lack of RW depth, it would make perfect sense acquiring Stewart, if the price is right and they can re-sign him. If he'd just be a rental, then its a total waste. He's having a terrible season, but he is a goal scorer and only 27.

with the Flames Christmas freeze already in place, it is possible the Bruins or Senators trade for him while Treliving's hands are tied

Blockbuster it up and snag Myers too while we are at it.
I think players like these would excel under Hartley and Gelinas, especially Myers.

Myers is incredibly hockey dumb. He's a turn over machine and is always in the wrong spot. No thanks at any price

I would sooner target McCabe and Ruhwedel than any of Myers/Zadorov/Ristolainen
The others aren't as good as those three but are also blocked by them. Especially considering the insane ask on Myers, it would make a lot more sense to target the lesser guys.

is this organization really missing the Rene Bourque type?
Nope, so why bother with Stewart.

I was wondering was Stewart a linemate with David Jones back in 2010-11? Both posted career numbers that year, so maybe that's a reason why the Flames are looking at him. I know if may be hard to repeat a formula from five years ago, but if the asking price is minimal I don't see what the harm in could do. Better Stewart than someone out there that would cost us serious assets. The Flames have depth in the minor leagues to dangle Reinhart, Agostino, or similar prospects.
They could always take a flyer on Stewart now, and if we're out of the playoff race come the deadline we can probably trade him again for the same asking price (like the Vanek/Moulson scenario last year). It's better to make a move now, than to wait another 2-3 months imo.

Don't Stewart and Jones play the same side?

Yeah they are both RW right shots, doubtful they played much together.
Wouldn't surprise me if the Avalanche connection with the some of the Flames staff is the driving force behind it though. Goulet and Cloutier where both with the Avs when Stewart made his NHL debut and IIRC Feaster said they were consulted before the Jones trade.

If all it takes is a mid level prospect and an AHL player, the Flames should be all over this and take the gamble.

Seems like a pretty low-risk move that would shore up the weakest position on the team. You just worry about the reputation that Stewart seems to have acquired since he was looking like a great young player in Colorado.
In theory a line like Colborne - Monahan - Stewart would have a lot of potential. The only problem is the theory relies on Stewart playing to a potential that may not even exist anymore.

Would be surprised if ottawa made the deal. They are a budget team and they are paying Maclean not to coach which is adding to their financial commitments. Couple that with their inability to move greening and can't see them making that move anytime soon.
Boston tight against the cap so they would have to make a corresponding move to make room.
Depends how desperate murray is but can't see him on the move before Xmas break. Too many hurdles to make it work for the teams mentioned.
