There's no reason the team won't be as good or better with the vets back in once they get their legs back. It's just unfortunate they are all coming back at once if it takes a few games each to remind their grooves

I enjoyed watching Ferland with the Flames and have no doubts that he will be a legit NHL player.

In all honesty and I'm sure most wont agree but I would rather watch him then Stajan, Bollig, McGrattan, Raymond or Colborne. Ferland going back down to the AHL is certainly not a negative thing at this point in his career but Treliving has to figure out how to make room for these young guys knocking at the door.

I think everyone here would rather watch Ferland over those guys, but they are all still assets and you can't just dump them off for nothing.

Plus, it won't hurt Ferland at all to get more seasoning in the minors. Kid played well but at the end of the day, he still only collected 1 assist in the 8 or 9 games he played.

He's a better player than a 4th line plugger, he needs to be putting up points, so getting back into that scoring feel down in the AHL is perfect for him.

I think if he continues to score in the AHL, he'll be up here for good by the end of the season. Hartley gushes about him every time he talks about him.

Haha, hilarious.

Goes to show how overrated Ferland is by some here.

Colborne/Granlund > Ferland

Neither loss had anything to do with the vets coming back...pure coincidence. They deserved to win both games so not sure how you blame that on the vets, unless you believe they angered the "hockey gods".

Ferland looks like a keeper and I am very excited about what he and Porier can do on the wings moving forward

Ferland brings more than Bollig, while still being able to play the physical role Bollig is supposed to play. I think once Bollig is gone, Ferland is up for good.

I've said it before, this whole season is pure, sweet gravy. And something will give, I just dont know when.

It does seem pretty obvious at the moment that a couple vets are likely to be traded close to the deadline to bring these kids back up. Good problem to have.
Great problem to have. Now they just have to time it right. If they're in the playoffs at the deadline what do they do? Stay the course and keep everyone for depth?

Or take some risks and flip some vets for assets when their value is at its peak and then roll with the kids?

The trade deadline is going to take some serious stones from management.

Very true, but at the same time he has to wait until the timing is right to try and maximize value and return.

Obviously Setoguchi was worthless, but the same isnt entirely true of other people who may have to make way.

It won't kill these guys to spend another season in the AHL. They're not going to become worse hockey players. A guy like Gustav Nyquist spent three seasons bouncing between the AHL and NHL before sticking in the NHL. And Detroit seems to be doing something right.

Granlund is 10x the player that Ferland is right now.

Not saying Ferland won't be an NHL player, but Granlund is the better option right now.

C Markus Granlund 18 4 6 10 -1
L Michael Ferland 10 0 1 1 -2

If you'd rather have Ferland than Granlund, you should also be loving Bollig's play.

Dont be saying you'd rather have a rookie than a vet when that guy has been injured for a month while the rookie has been playing.

These guys are NHL vets for a reason and what we're seeing is excellent man-management from the team. One of the biggest obstacles rookies face aside from the speed of the pro-game is the schedule. The 82 game grind is brutal, thats why depth is key, especially when rookies start fizzling out.

Vets know all about those slumps and have the experience to work through them, the rookies have to learn that still.

So saying that you'd rather have Ferland than Colborne while considering Colborne's contract and the fact that hes just coming back from injury is not the world's most sensible statement.

You want an All-Rookie team? Its 3 hours north, enjoy the show. Bring popcorn.

The right mix is crucial.

At the moment Granlund has earned his spot ahead of Ferland. Long term, I see a spot for Ferland over Granlund, just based on what they bring and what the team will look like in 3 years.

I agree with the sentiment that Ferland should be here, but in addition to Colborne. We need Colborne. He is our biggest forward.

Bollig is the guy who should be on the "chopping block."

I like his hustle as much as the next guy but anybody else with those stats would be a CP whipping boy.

agreed he could be a good role player in the future but come on now....better than Colborne and Granlund that is laughable

I thought Colborne was starting to use his size and had a bit of an edge to his game before the injury. It will be good to have him back.
