I honestly thought he'd be a good coach. Maybe he's just better off as an assistant or pp specialist. I'm sure he'll end up somewhere soon.

I wonder if they would have any interest in Dan Bylsma?

Having a captain who loses his cool and throws his stick in defeat probably doesn't help.

Oilers realize the season is over and are seeking the next best prize to winning the cup in McDavid. Oilers management know full well just the hype of McDavid alone buys them at least 5 more years of making losing an easy sell in Edmonton.

As for MacLean things started out really well as he had that team overachieve and make the playoffs. When the team started to play to their talent level things started to unravel. Maybe he lost the room but when you look at the overall talent on that roster I would say their current record reflects where they should be. It's just not a very good team.

Dave Cameron was a 'grind every game into the earth' type coach in the OHL. If he hasn't changed, expect some Coyotes type hockey in Ottawa.

The worry for me if I was a GM is how is Bylisma going to do coaching a team that doesn't have Malkin and Crosby as your top two centers? I do recall some stints where Crosby and Malkin were injured where he actually did a good job keeping the team together but there's something about him that would scare me off. Just how bad they were in the playoffs (especially the season Iginla was there and the way he mixed up the lines he seemed really clueless for a guy of his experience). I would imagine a team in the next calendar year will find out.

And because the Oilers change coaches almost every year. Eventually someone in management has to figure out that maybe, just maybe, the players are the problem.
If Edmonton wanted to right the ship and make some trades, they'd can Eakins. It's the only way to get any value back for your players and not be trading from a complete position of weakness.

On the other hand, if they are looking to tank (appears that way) then you're right. No point in doing anything this season.

I don't think so. MacLean was fired in NJ before. MacLean was actually a good coach but for some reason he couldn't get Ottawa to where they supposed to be. First they thought getting rid of Jason Spezza will change the atmosphere on this team but that doesn't seem to work either.

I supposed they will wait until after the season before they go after another coach. Damn lost the pool on whoever coach will get fired first. I went for the favorite Dallas Eakins and buddy of mine went for the 2nd favorite Randy Carlyle. Oh well.

Interesting, but Dave Cameron was in the Flames system in the mid-80s for half a season or so.

Notables on the AHL Moncton Golden Flames that season:

Joel Otto
Gary Roberts
Gino Cavellini
Mark Lamb
Dale Degray
Keith Hanson (cup of coffee)
Neil Sheehy
Steve Tambellini
Mike Vernon
Marc D'amour
dale degray

Accountability?

I mean the actual thing not whatever it is that Craig MacTavish believes in.

I mean, he won the Jack Adams award a couple seasons ago. Not sure what happened it Ottawa, but I imagine he'll easily get another job.

I believe you are confusing Paul with John.

John coached in NJ...Paul has not.

Eugene Melnyk is utterly incompetent. Senators are headed for dark days once Murray steps away.

Looks as though Cameron won't be getting in interim label. He's the new head coach.

@SNkylebukauskas: Dave Cameron IS the head coach, not interim according to Bryan Murray. #Sens

Deboer is a very solid coach. Do you really think they should be doing better with that lineup?

Murray all but confirms the comments were the last straw
@darenmillard: @Senators GM Bryan Murray says Paul Macleans comments on Saturday did not sit well with him. Handling of young defence wasn't positive
