The Hitmen sent him home, though the sentiment is likely mutual.
And no real butthurt, Red John. Kelowna is already easily the class of the WHL. Adding Chase to tag along while better players win him a title would reflect well on them, not him. If anything, Chase playing for Kelowna like he did for Calgary would hurt the Rockets.

Really doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless it's straight up for Kanzig.
Why does Victoria give up any of their future for a rental this year, they look very average so far.
I mean there's always a chance when you're making the playoffs but seeing mid pack teams push hard for rental players is not a recipe for success short term or long term. Maybe desperation to stay ahead of PG and Kamloops?
Interesting that the Hitmen would rather have Kanzig and a 2nd than the 1st rounder+ the Rockets were offering. The must really like Kanzig because this is likely his last year in the WHL so he's basically a rental.
The Rockets could still use another top end forward though they've been trying hard to get Josh Morrissey so we'll see if that ends up happening instead.

I think Kanzig has a good chance of being back in the WHL next year. Culkin, Kulak, Seiloff, Ramage, Acolaste, 2 vets and possibly Wotherspoon is 8 spots right there.
Right now, the difference between a Kelowna 1st rounder and a Victoria 2nd rounder is about 10 spots. Not that significant. So depends on what the + Kelowna would have offered would have been.

The Hitmen have also been pushing for Morrissey, we'll see if that pick helps get him to the Hitmen.
Well I am sure that people might disagree given how many Calgarians are on the board but the Hitmen seem to have gotten bent over in this trade imo.
As a flames fan in Calgary you have every reason to be happy watching Kanzig... And the flames will have an advantage (or a bit of a conflict of interest) next year in that they can force Keegan to pass on a year of AHL development and make him play for the hitmen as an overager.
That said, they traded a guy who might be on Canada's world junior team for basically a 19 year old enforcer who is a defensive work in progress and an average pick.
Imho they should have been seeking as many quality younger assets back as possible with where they are in the standings this year. If they actually throw away some future and go all in on this season for Morrisey that would be very surprising to me, though I guess you never know how the playoffs will pan out and they probably want to get further than edmonton for a change.
Former Hitmen player Pavel Padakin scored his third Teddy Bear Toss goal in three years. Padakin is now playing for the Regina Pats as a twenty year old.

What are the odds of a player doing this?
I believe he is the only person to have ever scored 3 teddy bear goals in 3 consecutive years.
There are a few college players who have done it twice in consecutive years, but I've never heard of 3. I believe that's an "all of hockey" sort of record.
What happens if the Hitmen get shut out in the Teddy Toss game?
Does everyone hold onto their bears and leave the saddledome without donating?
Then you get to throw them at the players at the end of the game because they played so poorly.
Most teams do have a thing in place that if they don't score, you just throw them at the end of the 3rd period. I believe that's also why a few teams in other leagues also have a planned throwing time during the 1st or 2nd intermission.
