The DS is so popular in Japan that even now (6-8 months later) there is no stock anywhere, and you have to win a lottery to actually get the right to purchase one. Over here there are a tonne of games, including English conversation quizes, "Brain Builder" type games in addition to the cutesy raise a dog type of games. My wife wanted one for her birthday (May 21) and she's still waiting.

The DS in Japan is the fastest selling videogame system ever released for any territory (NA, Japan, Europe). For comparisons sake the DS has sold well over 10 million units in Japan while the PSP hasn't pushed 3.5 yet. The numbers are fairly close for the other 2 territories with the DS holding a slight advantage in both.

PSP has a lack of games, is too brittle feeling, has really bad software, is not fun, and for the most part, games take forever to load since there are loading times off the disc (which can fly out).

With the DS or a GBA, you can play instantly on the moment like waiting for something, on transit, on lunch, etc. By the time you've loaded something on the PSP, you could have played many rounds of games and enjoyed yourself with the DS.

The PSP is just like a shruken down PS2 with all the negatives and baggage with it. It's not even good for movies since you have to buy large memory sticks and deal with crappy firmware unless you spend money on overpriced PSP UMD movies.

Supposedly, Bob Ross is coming out for DS and Wii

Yes, THAT Bob Ross. Paint a happy little tree.

I agree, while the PSP is sexy and has an AMAZING screen, there's not a lot of games for it and the game experience by the DS is superior (I've played with both).

Not saying there aren't good games for the PSP, and if you want more like movie capabilities there's some good there (The DS screens don't lend themselves to movies, while the PSP.. drool...), not enought to justify the cost to me.

I haven't played my DS since January. I finally decided to order Phoenix Wright online after not finding it in Calgary and just got it a week ago. This is a great game. Track it down and find it now.

Nintendogs is fun for awhile but quickly becomes a chore.

Also, all the bad stuff said about the psp is crap. I use my psp way more than the ds.

I own a PSP, DS, and a GBA. I like them all but the PSP is extremely delicate. Don't let your kids play with it whatsoever!

The PSP has a few really good games actually: GTA, Daxter, Fifa World Cup, Burnout, and the screen is amazing. However, it's not good as a movie machine.

The DS is a great little unit. The stylus allows for pretty innovative games like Kirby, Brain Age, Warioware etc. I've probably got more games for the DS than the PSP. It's also extremely durable so can be used by your kids with little worries.

Jordan, Nintendogs is a clever little game but it does get a bit old fast. I picked it up for my kids and had no trouble going up to the counter to buy it. If you want it, just suck it up and buy it!

Reason enough to own a DS (or GBA):

Final Fantasy I, II and IV are already out, while III, V and VI are coming.

I guess I should have clarified that that's just a personal preference. I've got a laptop that I use to watch movies "on the road."

The battery life is not suitable for movie watching unless you keep the PSP plugged in. THe screen is awesome though but I just don't feel comfortable watching on a small handheld is all when I have other better, for me, options.
