It's really too bad he missed the development camp. It would have been nice to see how he stacks up against the other prospects. Here's hoping we have a couple of nice surprises next year between him and Rafikov

I remember that he was quite the force at the development camp in 2012. Hopefully we get to see him next year; he should to be one of the best players there given his age.

At this point I am cheering for Jankowski a bit more than any other prospect of ours. Mostly because I cant wait for all the impatient negative 'fans' who have doubted him since the beginning to eat their words. He is a good player and has progressed about as good as we could hope in terms of gaining size, learning how to play a 2 way game and even consistently upping his scoring production since his freshman season. I dont know what some people want?

Maybe this is all because in retrospect people feel like we should have taken someone else in the draft like Maata, but who knows? Dont forget we got Sieloff in that trade down and he and Jankowski still need time before we can even say that was a bad move by Feaster.

This kid doesnt get a fair chance from a lot of fans because he is to them, only ours as a result of a wiesbrod and feaster screw up. Not fair to Janko - he is a good prospect!

Well there is one thing I agree with you, it isn't fair to Jankowski.

There's a clear progression from a player who was thrown in at the deep end by going to the NCAA a season earlier than planned. He plays a very strong defensive game and is a career +14 in the NCAA. Perhaps he won't be an elite #1 center, an opinion the Feaster Kool-Aid and Craig Button were pushing, but we don't need him to be a #1 center.

I think the kid is going to be a player along the lines of Joe Colborne. He probably needs another year in college after this and then a couple in the AHL, but we can afford to play the long game. That's what the plan was all along.

I disagree with your assessment on progression statistically. His numbers have remained basically stagnant through year 1 and 2 if you factor in that he played 5 fewer games the first year regardless of his ranking on the team. I've read here and around other sites that his role and offensive starts have also gone up since year 1 which should also allow for more production. Nothing is written in stone development wise, but you generally see a notable uptick in production from years 1-2-3 on NHL bound players in the NCAA. Let's also keep in mind that the kid has grown into his body and should be reaping the benefits of his size on a much more consistent basis now.

Every year around this time it is also becoming nearly ritualistic that fans adjust expectations for the kid with extreme fervor against anyone still holding him to his first round status. If all the organization views him as now is a depth center (which i'm not sure I agree with) its sad and truly telling as to how bad the blowhards that were running the show really were at the time.

Jankowski still has a ways to go, but man is he a nice player to watch. He totally fits in the Flames scheme of playing both sides of the puck and generating offense from being tenacious on defense. Still has silky sweet mitts and a great head for the game. He is still the best forward on his team, by a fair margin too. There isn't anything his coach won't ask him to do, and nothing Jankowski won't embrace and be successful at. Just a great prospect to watch develop.

Also have to mention that Gilmour has had a bit of a tough start but still remains the best defense man on the Friars. He reminds me a lot of Giordano coming up. Could be another nice piece moving forward. Wouldn't it be nice to see the Flames sign a big center, a solid defender, and a great goaltending, adding more depth to our prospects on the farm? Isn't that exactly what the Oilers need to do? And the Flames have that coming in. Awesome future.

I feel like Jankowski is being held back in the same sense as a Jockey pulls back on a horse during a race only to unleash his full potential when it matters most.

Once Jankowski turns pro I think we're going to see his offense explode. Nothing substantial to base my gut feeling on other than he's being developed in a very defensive oriented team structure. Not unlike the Flames but with less punch on the transition.

It sure is going to be interesting for the rest of this year and next season. I cannot wait to see the end result of his college career.

sorry, but I don't get this at all. Of course you have to consider his ranking on the team and also the team's overall offense if you want to assess a player's numbers. 25 points on the Friars is a completely different thing than, say, 25 points on the Eagles. On the Friars, he was 2nd in goals and 3rd in points last season ... on the Eagles, he would have been 5th in goals and 7th in points. Huge difference. You can't simply read a stat line and judge without looking closer at the situation.

Also, to quote myself from another thread:

that's not "stagnant numbers", but solid progress. Especially when you consider that Jankowski switched from the wing to center between his freshman and his sophomore season. Also, Jankowski won 54 percent of his faceoffs last season which is huge as well. And finally, he bulked up and added over 25 pounds since his draft day, which shows a lot of commitment and work ethic.

I'm excited about Jankowski. The worst thing to happen to him was Feaster overselling and hyping that prep school boy, but then the best thing to happen was probably the Flames drafting Monahan and Bennett afterwards. It allows the Flames to take their time and be patient with Jankowski, and it also took a lot of pressure from Jankowski who now doesn't have to be the savior of the franchise, but can take his time to develop properly. And he will, because Nate Leaman is a heck of a coach and Jankowski is learning a solid two way game at Providence. Personally, I think that's more important than just the stat line.

I still think 4 years of college and at least a year in the AHL will do him good. Then ... we'll see what he's made of. I have made that comparison before, but again, I think Alex Killorns path to the NHL is something to look at. Like Jankowski, he was heavily undersized when drafted (6'0 and 161 - now he's 6'2 and 205) and took his time to fill out his frame, played 4 years of college and made the NHL roster after 54 AHL games. If Jankowski can do a similar thing and become a responsible two way forward in the NHL, I'd be delighted.

I'm rooting hard for Jankowski. It has reached the point where I almost want to see him succeed only so that all the doubters and naysayers - and there have been plenty of those since he was drafted - can go and eat crow.

This season, Providence has scored 24 goals. Jankowski has 6 points, which means he had a point on 25% of their total goals. He has also missed 4 games.

In the games he has played, Providence has 16 goals. He has a point on 37.5% of all Friar goals in the games he has played.
