The owner cares more about personal relationships and money than the team winning. No accountability in the organization. A toxic losing attitude in the dressing room. Nothing will change until the front office is revamped and some of the so called untouchables are traded for areas of need

Tank/losing culture being accepted by fans and management.

Smid was out of breath with his first practice with the Flames and commented on the intensity, compared to relaxed oiler practices.

Even Horak bolted for the KHL rather than player for Oilers

Fantastic idea!!

If you do go this route, PLEASE sneak in a faded pic or text of "sweat pants, nice shoes". Faded in the background of the text you're presenting.

What are your solutions? Who would you fire and who replaces them? Who would you try to trade, for what and why? What do you need to change in order to wean out the loser mentality? Do you think it can be turned around quickly or will it be another 5 years before they have a hope of competing?

I did the same thing last year, albeit it was only a 5 minute presentation, and I titled it "Why the Oilers are the worst run franchise in professional sports". It was a lot of fun.

Trying to be serious, the Oilers (and their fans) have had a woefull lack of self assessment, it's not the bad decisions/hires/picks as much as no obvious timeline to look at them and decide it's gone wrong that has, and continues to screw them.
Every organization makes bad choices, or good ones reach their time limit, it's the ability to set assessment periods and the discipline to admit ****s gone wrong that limits the damage and sets the stage for better choices.

Edmonton has always been stuck in the past. The bloody sign entering the city is "City of Champions" but what have they won? They should call it "City Stuck in the 80's".

The leaders are the problem and you have your head wrapped around the problem just fine, but the city needs to address the city of champions mantra.

Just trying to add something different.

An interpretive dance based on the Oilers season so far, and performed by a cast of awkward preschoolers would best convey your premise.

I must confess that I'm an oiler fan but this site is miles ahead of any oilers site I have visited even when it comes to good news about the oilers. I have the task of a 10 minute presentation on an personal point of view and I have chosen why the oilers will continue to suck until fundamental changes are made. I am trying to get all my facts together and I though who better to ask than the CP community (the enemy) for help. So far i have this rough outline.

Daryl Katz - buddies with the old boys club and hires staff not b/c of qualifications but personal relationships, forcing Nail Yakupov to be drafted instead of Ryan Murray, the trip to Seattle when arena negotiations weren't going well, seems to care more about profit and butts in the seats then actual on ice product, fans being taken to the basement because of signs costumes etc

Kevin Lowe - hired MacT as GM after he was fired as a coach (who does that!!!!!), infamous press conference - 2 tiers of fans and the I know a little about winning comment (just because you won Stanley cups with the greatest player to play the game doesn't mean you know how to run a team)

Craig Mactavish - fires ralph krueger over skype, promises bold moves (still waiting on those)

Player Decisions & development - Rushing young players into the NHL before they are ready, drafting players who are BPA and not what the team needs, too many small wingers not enough quality centre's and defencemen

Locker room - Young guns run the show and are untouchable, room is divided, players comments after leaving the organization (i can't really remember who these were) nashville comments about how dubnyk had been taught horrible habits, perron on trading block for suggesting changes need to be made.

So that is what I have so far....any suggestions or helpful links would be greatly appreciated. Judging by the Edmonton is no good thread many of you should be able to point out anything I have missed lol
Do you work for Kevin Lowe?

Has he finally figured out have a deeper understanding of what is wrong with his team than he does?

Hiring an inexperienced coach to try to teach those kids to play a style that you need to play to win when they had already handed out the big contracts was foolish.

As far as a presentation goes, I would imagine that you could play 'Yakety Sax' and show a lot of 'this guy scored' pictures, or even better clips of their D on those goals against

i dont post here often and am mostly a lurker but i feel i need to weigh in...

...for the first time in recent memory, an Oiler coach benched(healthy scratched) a player in Justin Schultz. This was a big step for Dallas Eakins. I have noticed that in post game interviews Mr. Eakins always says a smilier slew of words "we got off to a great start but THEY...We had the momentum but THEY...it was competitive but THEY.." there is no accountability. It doesn't matter what THEY do. The only thing that matters is what YOU/US/WE do and how YOU/US/WE respond and adapt to the play. There has been limited to no accountability from him or his players. It doesn't matter if your Hall, Eberle, RNH or the little ginger minion announcing names at the draft...its on the oilers as an organization to utilize the talent you have, without a doubt been given, and start winning. its on you to try and win and not rely everyone else to play sub-par hockey and lose.

//rant

as a fan...im waiting for a draft pick to pull a lindros and refuse. if i was a top 3 pick to the coilers i would refuse to play and do my best to be waived by all 30 teams and re enter the draft the following year.

everyone go watch Dallas Eaking post game interview after the 1-0 shut out against nashville. no accountability. "THEY...THEY...THEY..." after saying it was a good game by his group. it doesn't matter how you played if you lost.

The typeface on the sign is enough to tell you that.

That was a quick and dirty design, and it shows. Worse, in those days, ‘quick and dirty’ meant that the graphic designer grabbed a sheet of Letraset rub-on transfer lettering and slapped some letters on the page. In this particular case, ITC Serif Gothic, with a pathetically cheap attempt to customize the initial E.

The only uglier lettering job in Alberta is on the Oilers’ own logo. Though our licence plates come a close third.

I would also include the Oilers rushing players back from injury.

- The things Souray has stated about the Oilers was very damning, I thought.

- The recent interview by Renney saying he was 'forced' to play kids who were returning from injury but NOT ready

- Oilers trading Fraser (who was injured, but they didn't 'know') after trying to trade Brule (not cleared from concussion) to LA

- Inability to find a good coach (having the right coach and vets is extremely important for a rebuilding team

- Lowe not rebuilding the drafting and development department when he decided the team needed to be rebuilt

Just a couple of points that I don't think was touched on. Good luck!
