Nevermind the fact of how pissed/shocked they would be when sat in the PB because they coasted back while the opponent went in on a 3 on 0.

It's really too bad about that whole "can't trade an injured player" nonsense. If only there were a way to have Edmonton's doctors clear them..

Hall might be very talented but he gets caught with his head down way too much. I can't see him being in the NHL more than a few more seasons before he takes the Lindros route of concussions. He got lucky the other night as a guy caught him with his head down again but the guy missed his check or Hall would be on the IR right now.

Unless you can get Hall, Eberle, Yakupov or RNH at 50 cents on the dollar, its not worth it. Have to give up assets, whom do not need to be reclaimed from years of bad development.

Personally for me, it would be RNH. I think he is the most talented out of the bunch and could benefit being in our system and under Hartley.

I'd take any of the top 4 for the right price. I don't think they're completely ruined, but there's certainly a risk that their development has been greatly stunted, so the return price would have to account for that.
I like RNH and Hall as players, but Hall isn't worth the hype (in other words, asking price) to me, and RNH isn't as complete of a player as I'd typically prefer, although despite the team surrounding him he does appear to still be improving in that regard.
I also like Eberle as a player, and think he would be extremely well-suited to a complementary offensive role on a great team, but again, I just don't see the Oilers admitting that's all he's worth in a trade.
Yakupov is skilled, but I would not give up a lot for him. Just too much risk of him plateauing as a player and just never getting the confidence to become the player he could have become, IMO.

Don't forget the hefty and overpriced contracts that come with Hall, Eberle and RNH.

In junior despite being surrounded by other good players he had little to no success in terms of even making the play-offs, let alone playing in them so I imagine his show up in play-offs has to with him scoring a goal in which 3 other guys did a hell of a lot more to get him the tap in for Team Canada as the basis for you thinking he would do well in the play-offs? Because he has shown in the NHL when the physicality and defensive play is increased he has no problem taking games off.
Hall does everything better than him. Much better scorerer, better effort on defense, plays a physical game, gives a damn, has a history in junior of being great in the play-offs and winning.
The only reason I can think of wanting Eberle over Hall is if you think you can get him for cheap or that Edmonton wouldn't give up Hall because in terms of hockey play Hall is vastly superior.
|
I alluded to the fact that he hasn't really seen the playoffs. He kept pace in his two appearances for Regina, but that is, of course, Junior hockey.
That's a major problem, but I just get this intangible sense from Eberle that he is a player you will want when a series is on the line. I can admit that the only real proof I have is that incredible showing during World Juniors a few years back, but it was impressive. That only strengthened my confidence in him.
He's not really that soft of a player, it's just that the infectiousness of the Oilers disinterested system has left its mark on him. Its exhausting to care about losing when that's all your organization seems to do and instill. I would bet Eberle turns it on in a better culture. Seasons of 78 and 65 points, with 34 and 28 goals respectively is not average. He's only 24...he hasn't even hit his prime.
And this was never a Hall vs Eberle debate for me. This was who I would want from the Oilers, and given the reality of who the organization would actually be willing to part with (they aren't trading Hall, Nurse, Draistl, etc) I would take Eberle.

6 million isn't that high in today's NHL. Not saying I want these guys but the contracts aren't that bad. Hall was 6th in league scoring last year and 9th the year before. Pretty good production for 6 million. 60-70 points out of Eberle and 6 million is fair. Stick any 3 of these guys in a good organization and I think they earn their 6 million. 5 million in today's NHL usually only gets you a second tier player.

His WJHC play is vastly overrated by that one goal that was created by Ellis and Hodgson.
That 76 point season was a crazy shooting percentage that he hasn't come close to repeating and likely won't again.
I guess I find it odd to have that intangible sense of him when he has shown his entire career he is the opposite of that.

I don't agree. Besides, the sample informing your opinion is just as small as mine.

I would give Glencross, Sven, Grandlund and a first rounder for Eberle. Calgary kid with lots of upside. We have lots of up and comers and could afford to give up these guys and a first rounder.

I would take Eberle, Nurse, Klefbom, Marincin, and Gernat (not in the NHL) from the Oilers. There isn't really much beyond that though.
