I am not sure about living expenses but often when young guys get their first big paycheck they tend to go out and buy expensive things that they didn't have/couldn't afford before.

New car, stereo, clothes, watches etc. can end up costing a big chunk of change if you are into those types of things. But the day to day cost of living shouldn't be too high for him.

How so?

I believe they're considered independent contractors because they provide professional services to a corporation, plus if you're governed by a professional body or association (i.e. NHLPA) you're allowed to incorporate.

Why are people trying to dissect how much money these guys have? Pocket watchers. Their making more money than pretty much anyone on here and likely more than anyone was at their age. Their disposable income is crazy. Not to mention it's only going to go up and up. I don't need to break down their finances to know these guys have enough money to enjoy their lives quite well.

Quinn and Vernon hit Calgary hard and there were all sorts of stories coming out. This was before the internet (obviously) so word travelled slowly in most instances. Not with these two. Their partying ways moved quick through social circles, and there were some pretty scandalous items there as well.

Management saw this and moved Quinn out before Christmas in the 86/87 season, and removed that influence from their franchise goalie. Quinn's partying reputation got him in trouble in Pittsburgh where he was accused of raping a 19 year old at a hotel or a party, where Mario Lemieux and other Pittsburgh teammates were.
Funny how a story gets different as the years go by! Quinn was not much different than most players back then and Vernon was by far the worst pisstank/party animal on the team.

Quinn was traded for Bullard who was over a PPG player for the flames.

The rape incident happened in Minnesota 4 years after he left the penquins, he was a North Star and after a game between the two there was a party at the hotel and Quinn took 3 girls to Mario's room. I can't remember the 4th guy but Rick Tocchet was also there. Mario was plowing one of the chics in the bed next to where Dan had his.

Complete BS charge.

I remember Quinn said, when he got traded, something like "I won't miss losing to the Oilers all the time". That was 1986. The Flames then beat the Oilers and went to the final.

US Citizen, does not own property in Canada, has no family ties here either, plus a number of other factors. Most athletes who play in Canada but are not from Canada end up being non-residents.

Doesn't make a difference for taxes, He would be a landed resident, the land you work in is the land that gets your tax dollars.

I worked in 3 provinces and 1 state, I payed where I worked.

It makes a huge difference for taxes in Canada and in the US. He's a US citizen so he is paying taxes there no matter what.

Regardless of where you work, you are taxed where you are considered a resident of for taxes purposes on December 31st of a given year. It is how all the guys working on the rigs from NFLD end up paying taxes there because they maintain all their residential ties back home.

Yes but then there are other burdens like CPP/EI LT disability etc etc....plus NHLPA union dues, agent fees, etc....I'd be shocked if these guys kept more than 50% of their cheques.
