The other thing is the development arch.

Other than the McDavid's of the world, you get drafted but the work begins, you have to compete outpacing everyone around you. Perhaps the guy was an exceptional 18 year old, an amazing 19 year old, then hit the wall, and just isn't as good as he needs to be to take that next step.

Most 13th overall players are guaranteed to be producers at the NHL level unless they continue to develop.

Just want to re-open this thread to give a two thumbs up to Sven!

The last 3 or 4 games he's been playing very well. Looks like he's getting his confidence back. Keep it up Sven!

He is playing a lot better. Thank Jooris and Byron for that.

getting Setoguchi off that line and replacing him with Jooris was a fantastic move by Hartley, the line seems to have a lot of chemistry and it was so important that both Byron and Baertschi got on the scoreboard against Phoenix. There seems to be a lot more jump and energy in Svens game in the last couple of games and he seems to get his confidence back, which is obviously fantastic news. Hopefully he can keep it up and also get the scoring monkey off his back soon.

I really don't care if he pots a goal as long as he keeps setting up others. That pass to Byron was a thing of pure beauty

I agree. I'm just saying he's a guy who obviously feeds on confidence and I'm sure a goal would be another huge boost for him.

I want to see what happens after some good games with no points (because they will come, as they do for everyone). He needs to keep confidence from playing well, not getting goals or assists.

I agree, keep that line together. Jooris was good on face offs to boot.

His ability to see and develop the game makes him more of a passer than a shooter.

Hopefully he keeps it going. He's a fun guy to watch. Doesn't really look out of place the last few games.

Sven is really starting to look good the last few games. Starting to progress, get some confidence and hopefully starting to understand what it takes to be full time, and hopefully starting to catch some of the contagious positive attitude that seems to surround this team.

Quite the evolution from his call up. Started as un-noticeable, but at least not noticeable in a bad way, to now by the end of the game last night having me excited every time his line hit the ice because you just felt like him and his line were going to create all sorts of chances, with him being a huge part of that.

The thing that will be important is how he takes getting sent back down once the injured start coming back. If he gets sent down he needs to just keep doing what he's doing, knowing it is just a matter of time until he is a full time NHLer. It is just a matter of numbers this year and he just needs to understand that. Next year he's up full time!

Sven has played better his offensive game has picked up a lot, but he is still very weak on the puck and competing defensively.

Two of the most jaw-dropping plays from anybody on the roster that I watched in slow-mo several times were by Sven.

1) Last nights perfect 3 foot off the ice saucer pass onto the tape of a full-flight Byron from blue line to blue line.

2) That sick fade-away pass to Monahan last season for the game winner against Brodeur/Devils. Right on the tape, through 2-3 defenseman. Sick.

The kid has skill.

I have to say Byron should thank Sven and Jooris for his improved plays lately.

I might get slapped down for this but I think Sven will be staying up, likewise Jooris. Ferland will get a chance to stay but might go back down for a bit unless he plays lights out. I think Granlund will go back for more seasoning due to lack of room.

There are going to be too many young guys who should be coming up due to their play and nowhere to put everyone. I don't envy the Flames brass having to decide who.

Sven's failed to finish on some absolutely jaw dropping chances too. If he had finished some of these plays there would be a lot more buzz around him. Skip to 3:21 to see them. (Does anybody know if you can make timestamps work on cp?)

He had one last night too when he beat the defenseman but had a highsticking penalty called against him.

Mr. Brodie wishes you to look at his collection of stretch passes if you liked the one by Sven.
