And to think we have so many injured guys and a cupboard full of promising prospects. Whatever the Flames did in the past 2 years in terms of developing raw talent and skill has changed the team drastically. Years ago we could hardly string 2 passes together and the games were slow grinding games along the boards. I applaud whomever is behind the resurrection of the Flames, whether we make the playoffs or not this team is in amazing shape.

The best part is that you can just tell they are going to compete every night not because they are forced to but because it's in the teams makeup now, it's so ingrained into the identity that we are getting the best out of so many players. Even freakin Smid had flashes of offensive potential.

Dammit, i did jinx it. Maybe they are just going to set up a bigger disappointment.

I actually don't mind them getting the odd win. Keeps them out of the 20% zone in the McDavid stakes.

People who miss out on a very obvious joke always use the tired excuse. Even after being up for 3 days straight you should detect a "Sven invisible" joke after he had a great game.

Interesting stuff from the post game on the Fan…

Martin Gelinas just said that Mark Giordano is the greatest leader he's ever been around. Just for reference, Gelinas mentioned he has been around: Iginla, Messier, Nieuwendyk, Ron Francis…

She is beautiful Scrambler. I'd suggest naming her Brodie.

Monahan just keeps looking better and better. Great hands and smart plays all over the ice.

Hard to believe he's only 20.

Anyone just see Hudler in the background during the Byron post-game interview on Sportsnet?

Didn't have the chance to see the game, but just watched the replay of the Giordano goal. He and Brodie caused absolute havoc on that play. The 4 coyotes were twisted in a knot when that was over.

Just a microcosm of what those 2 are all about right now.

Haha! Edmonton loses in OT after scoring 2 in the third to come back.

Wow what horrible goaltending tonight. Hiller looked awful!

Despite that we get the win. Don't get me wrong, all players have off nights. Just nice to see the team help a guy having an off night. Hiller was really bad. Stole us some games etc in the past.

Sven with a couple of points and a smile on his face. Byron? I love the guy, yet he is so snake bitten with scoring. Nice to see the guys do well.

Brodie and Gio? League is starting to notice them. For good reason.

McGrattan? I don't care what anyone says. We play better with him than without him. 5 minutes a night on ice I am fine with. He makes his presence felt.

Not to mention his influence on Monahan. He is scoring goals he couldn't last year. Added size and muscle has sure helped him. Kid is amazing, and still so so young. Add another 5 pounds of muscle, he will be able to make things happen on the ice at his will.

Flames are tied with Pittsburgh and second only to Tampa for total goals scored by teams so far this year.

At the start go the year BT was concerned about where the scoring would come from. The answer so far - almost everyone on the team!

At 15:38 of the first there's a shot that misses and a Phoenix player starts to take the puck into the neutral zone. All 4 of the Flames players in the offensive zone backcheck hard and bare down on him and turn a 1 on 1 into a 1 on 5. Good work Hartley, good work. I'd love a gif of the entire team backchecking in formation.

2 goals for Byron. Looked dangerous all night.

Baertschi had what I think was the best NHL game of his young career. Hopefully a step in the right direction.

Good to see Monahan use his size and strength to create chances. Combined with his excellent hockey IQ and soft hands, he's going to be very difficult to defend against.

Hiller was shaky in the second, but stood tall when his team needed him. Still think Ramo should get the next start or two.

Gio showed once again why he deserves to be captain. Made an extraordinary play to score a goal to put the Flames back on top when they needed a momentum boost.

Oh, and the Oilers lost. Good night all around.

That's the crazy thing. Some posters were hard on him early this year. But he is playing much tougher minutes and took a bit to adjust. He just turned 20 in October too.

He put on a ton of weight in the offseason, worked hard to avoid the sophomore slump, he is only going to get exponentially better. What a gem this guy was at #6. I'm so happy Carolina took Lindholm at 5 and left us with Mony!
