Do we really have any idea if he's any good? I mean he's not a plug obviously but pretty much anyone can play net in LA and put up big stats.

Not everyone can throw up a shutout string like he did. And they obviously figured he made Bernier expendable.

Great praises from Mackenzie! All this early success and we still have 4 1st round picks that have yet to suit up for the big club. The present and the future are very bright and it makes me smile from ear to ear to think about it

A few of Canada's starting netminders who had good WJCs. It doesn't mean anything. The fact is that whoever is between the sticks for Canada is almost assuredly going to shine since Canada generally has the best defensive talent at the tournament.

Anecdotally, there's a lot of evidence to suggest little difference between most goaltending "talent" and that goaltenders' stats largely depend on external factors outside of their control. It's no wonder Chicago can go from net minder to net minder and be elite every year(Khabibulin - > Huet -> Niemi - > Crawford) or why Brian Elliot can go from one of the statistically worst goaltenders in the league to elite in one season behind a premier defense.

It's actually a fairly solid business practice. The Kings can keep generating good picks by flipping there goaltenders who look solid for them(Bernier and Scrivens) or how Nashville under Trotz seemingly pulled high calibre goaltenders out of thin air.

Hopefully you weren't one of those defending Fleury the other day.

My WJC point was just an add-on. The real point was befoerhand. How many others started with a 8 game win streak? I don't care how good defensively LA was - that's impressive.

Jones is simply a good goalie - anyone who watched him knows this.

If I was I wasn't using any WJHC performance as proof.

Good, because it was awful.

Maybe you can tell us what you've seen in JOnes that makes you question whether he's good or not, despiet his streak, his shutout numbers, etc.

I haven't seen enough of him to say whether or not he is a back-up behind a good team and that is why he has success or whether he is a talented guy stcuk behind a good goalie. I would tend to lean towards the team likely being a big part of his success because that is what happens far more often in these cases but not really sure with Jones.

I do know that his WJHC performance is not something that I would use as an indicator of him having future NHL success.

Fine. Ignore that part. I regret ever mentioning it. Focus on his save %, his winning record, his incredible shootout stats.

I wouldn't start him yet at all. But IMO he's one of the better backups in the league, especially at that age.

Me too. From the brief stints I saw in pre-season, he's goign to be a game changer like Johnny. He was our best forward in teh two games I saw him play.

Add in one more guy like Poirier and the whole dynamic of the team will change.

Be cool if we could pick up another high talent player in the draft this year.

There will be someone really good. Right up to the 15-20 slot.
