we'll see how Fucale develops, but at this point, it's a big win for Calgary and it's not even close. Cammalleri outplayed Bourque by a wide margin, Ramo has become a solid 1B option and the Habs have already given up on Holland (traded him to Winnipeg before the season).

Would've been a fantastic trade for Calgary if we could've got something for Cammalleri at the trade deadline last year. Still a good trade for us in the long-term though.

The Bourque trade to Montreal was one of those times where you just knew it was a matter of time before Habs fans would turn on him. Definitely addition by subtraction on our part.

I think Bourque is just damaged goods. I think he was a very excellent and often dominant player out there for Calgary for a while. However, to do so he needed to play that gritty style. Unfortunately, he would get his brain rattled it seemed, and he would come back playing a peripheral style that was ill-suited to his game and would be a frustrating player to watch. I actually feel sorry for him. I don't think he can ever become a good player again for any length of time and stay healthy while doing so. I think there are a lot of similarities with him and David Jones actually - they are both very effective players when they play their game, but they just can't withstand doing so for any length of time.

With that being said, I am glad we have Jones and not Bourque, as Jones at least has a higher hockey IQ out there and doesn't seem to take really stupid penalties and at least finds a way to contribute defensively and being a good puck-possession player.

He did that a couple games a season. The main play was to hang around the opposing blue line, then lolly gag to the bench for a change.

There is zero chance someone picks up Bourque on waivers. Why would anyone pick him up? You know what you get with him. If any team picks him up, they're idiots. Only team that stupid to pick him up is Buffalo or Edmonton.

I think we managed to make the trade with Montreal because Bourque really excelled in the Outdoor game at McMahon Stadium in 2011 when he scored 3 goals against them.

He had a wicked shot, however seemed to be greedy with the puck, as he seldom passed to someone who may have had a better chance at scoring. He also seemed to lack effort in the games at times.

I would pass.

but i digress, Edmonton would get a guy who grew up in the North East part of the city who doesn't speak hardly any French and wants to get out of Montreal. When he decides to play he is a big body who can put the puck in the net. He would be able to play on their top line in games when he is on, and down to their 3rd line on games where he is not. He is also a guy who elevates his game in the playoffs which is a valuable commodity.

If they could trade salary back to Montreal, they should make the deal in a heartbeat. As it is, his salary isn't great but not terrible either.

Since it's after November 1, the waiver priority is the reverse of the NHL standings, so: Buffalo, Columbus, Edmonton, Carolina, Dallas, Florida.


I'd be very surprised if he makes it past Florida, although, I could see Buffalo or Edmonton putting in a claim too.

If he clears montreal can pick up half his salary and someone will pick him up. Bourque at 1.65 is better than 3 mil plus. Also would help a cap team hit the floor while paying less actual salary due to his cap friendly contract.

Yeah, glad he's gone and all but like others have mentioned his playoff play is not bad. A guy like Bryan Bickell is lauded for his playoff play and has his regular season play excused away because he's good in the post season. Bourque gets roasted despite having similar playoff success after a regular season drought. Guess it comes down to Bickell not taking bad penalties and being a liability to the team. But I find it an interesting comparison.

One aspect of that trade that shouldn't be overlooked was the remaining term on the contracts. Cammy's contract, although bigger, had 1 less year, giving us much more flexibility moving forward. We are benefiting from that this year as we rebuild. Imagine if we still had Bourque clogging up the system... ugh... It was definitely one of Feaster's best trades.

A team MIGHT give him a shot at a reduced salary and cap hit but at the current salary and cap hit? Not likely at all.

You say "when he's on", Well he is barely on as all of us Flame fans know. And come on Montreal fans think he's one of the dumbest players in the NHL too as did a whole bunch of Flame fans.

When on he is a legit top 6 but that is when he feels like it and he only feels like it about 20% of the time.
