If the NHL allows advertising on jerseys I hope that the business decisions are left with the teams rather than the NHL. The teams should have an option to decide which companies to sign advertising deals with and whether or not they want a "virgin" jersey or a sponsor-filled jersey.
The NHL should put forward standard contracts and ad placement policies but not control who or what is advertised by each team.

Looking at older or classic hockey clips now, it's strange seeing blank boards with no advertising. I'm sure I'll get used to sponsorships on jerseys.

I'm fine with the small logo of the jersey makers, but I will not buy a jersey with randomly place/colored ads on it. They can choose between my money or the sponsors money. Especially if they're still going to cost $300. If it cuts the price of an authentic jersey to $50, maybe. But with the greed being displayed here, I doubt that is going to be the case.

Well, there's the end of me collecting jerseys. Thanks to the NHL for saving me some money, I guess.

If this happens I will never again spend a single cent on jerseys, and I usually pick up one to three a season.

i wonder if the player have any thoughts on the digital ad boards, to me it would seem like an optical nightmare to chase a puck into the boards when the background is changing.
hopefully some kind of sensible balance is struck on jersey ads.....i wonder what that is worth

The NHL should do a referendum with the fans before pursuing this. It really is a bad idea. We all know NHL owners (like most pro sports team owners) are money sucking vampires, but this is really going too far. Advertising on NHL uniforms is no good.

Which poster was it that insisted we were all lying when we said we'd never buy a jersey with ads on them? That was a good thread.

If they're brought out together, it's obviously a massive social experiment to find out just how many bowls of #### the masses will eat.

Anything that makes us more like NASCAR is deplorable and should be fought with every inch of our being.
I just really hate all things NASCAR.

If the NHL went the way of the CFL route and kept the ads to a minimum - I'd be ok with that.
Or replace the shoulder logo's with ads could be an alternative. While keeping most uniforms intact as we see them today.
Sell the jersey's sans logos.
I can see the ice being cluttered with logo's though, each faceoff dot / blue lines ect.

That's a bad photoshop. An equivalent jersey to the soccer jersey would have the ad right at the center, and the Habs logo being where the ad currently is.

I suspect that individual teams will choose who and how many sponsors they have. So the southern US teams jerseys will be monstrosities no doubt, but I can see teams like the Canadiens and Leafs having nothing so as to not tarnish the classic jerseys.

Digital boards are already really annoying on soccer fields.
Also, once jersey ads come in, you can kiss a lot of traditional team colors goodbye. They'll be in sponsor approved colors just like on many soccer jerseys.
This will happen because sponsors are willing to pay more for the jersey ads than the profit of jersey sales, which I imagine is not really that much.

That's exactly why they are doing this. Backlash will suck at first, but long term the sheeple will come flocking back. It's time to start a revolution.
