Default City of Calgary public auctions...

... anyone ever go to one? Any tips, suggestions, or experiences to share? How busy is it and do you get a chance to check out the goods ahead of time?

They do it through Reid's Auction House (well, for things that aren't cars) and I was thinking of checking it out... they've got a bunch of hardwood flooring available, as well as things like treadmills etc...

Thanks

Yeah where and when do they do these? I've always wanted to go. Where's Reid's Auction House?

theres always online sites for every city. Type auctions, Calgary in Google. Go to their sites and check whats upcoming and what is listed.

Auctioneers Calgary

I love auctions and have found many excellent deals. I havent bought a vehicle, but all of my artwork and a great number of knicknacks and paddywhacks have been acquired at little cost.
The idea is to go armed...if you dont know what you are bidding on the dont. Also have a ceiling...once that ceiling has been reached dont raise that number no matter how good it seems.
A lot of auctions have stooges who will try to bump numbers up...watch for that and dont get caught in the game.
If you have to simply go and watch...watch how people bid and learn value before you get invovled. IF its cars then take a mechanic with you.
Estate selloffs are the best places to get great things like Art or items for your wife or G/F.
Have fun...it is a great way to acquire very good items for little cost...I highly recommend it to all young people to learn how to auction.

I bought my car at an auction and it has been great. Saved a couple thousand. Can't remember what the auction was called though, it was up near Mcknight.
Maybe Regal auctions IIRC?

I picked up some carbonized bamboo hardwood floor at Reid's Auction for 2.50 per square foot. Fantastic deal, although I also had to pay a fee for buying something at the auction as well. I'm not sure if it was a percentage of my costs, or what. It might be a good idea to look into that before you buy anything.

I've been to a few auctions and every time I go there are fantastic deals. Most of the time it's on something I don't need, so I don't buy it. For example, there was this beautiful granite tile going for 1.50 per square foot. Absolutely incredible price.

-Edit- Reid's Auction is somewhere around Centre St S and 60-something Ave. Check out the website.
