The New York Times is reporting the solider has died. Also that one "body" was inside the Parliament Building.

And this is the kind of idiocy I was talking about. Like what is the point of this other than putting people in harm's way so you can gain some extra attention/followers?

No, they have ceremonial rifles with no ammunition or firing pins.

Credible sources tell @SunNewsNetwork there may be as many as five active shooters in #Ottawa http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/canada/archives/2014/10/20141022-100348.html …

Concerning, but wise. My first thought was this was a copycat, but even if it had a greater level of planning, the risk of other copycats is high.

Meanwhile in Ottawa, the University of Ottawa announces that the campus is locked down and all classes are cancelled, and people are whining about how they have exams today and this is all so very inconvenient.

I drove past one last Sunday afternoon.
Just recall she was saluting and had a knife attached to her belt at centre back. If she had a weapon it was a small firearm and I didn't see it.

I saw a story last night on Global News regarding increased security measures at the bases following the previous incident. I wasn't paying much attention though.

I'm gonna save my sanity and not read any comments in articles posted on Facebook about this incident.

I hope everyone comes out of this alive. Jeez what a situation.

CNN seems sure of that, too.

Scary thing is we've had no reports whatsoever of where any of them might be in the last little bit, not even speculation. I hope every school, daycare, or any public building is locked down in Ottawa/Gatineau.

This is crazy. Hopefully it was evacuated earlier.

5 sounds crazy. That feels like one of those statements in the early stages of a bad event that was way off in retrospect.

One can only hope that it would have been locked down earlier (as it is only a couple of blocks from Parliament.)

Rideau Centre shooting confirmed by Ottawa Police. This is a mall right next to Parliament. Injuries unknown, and unknown if related.

NY Times says soldier is dead, unconfirmed.

One person confirmed dead inside Parliament, presumably one gunman, no reports of other injuries.
