This reminds me of that short side pass he made from behind the net in the World Championships: I've watched it probably 30 times and am still pretty sure it's not actually possible.
I think Gaudeau may be playing with portals.

It was easy to miss (happened so fast) but Gaudreau broke up a good scoring chance early in the game with a great defensive play:
And it was at this point that I realized just how bad the broadcasters were. They were analyzing this play and made no mention of the great defensive work by Gaudreau.
A lot of talk about the inevitability of one of Hiller or Ramo emerging as the clear cut starter and potentially the other guy being traded but it seems to me there's plenty of tactical value in keeping up the rotation. Forces the other teams to do homework on not just one, but two solid goalies or even gives Hartley the chance to play one or the other based on which teams the flames are playing. Of course there is every chance that Ramo/Hiller could have an off night but we wont be giving any games away based on the fact we had to play a backup.
Just something that’s been stewing in my brain. Thought id share.
It might also be that they are each playing well precisely because they are alternating. If Hiller faces that many shots EVERY game there's no way he sustains his performance

Based on what Hartley said it seems that teams come at us with pressure in the first. The reason is probably because they think their experience can beat our energy when they are the most fresh, as Hartley said the plan is to weather the storm and survive the pressure with a minimal deficit.
I agree somewhat.
Especially when we're talking away games, it's very typical for the home team to start strong and the visiting team to focus on weathering that storm at the start of the game. And it's been mostly away games for us so far.
That said, I think we're being too passive and we're allowing too many shots. We end up taking a lot of penalties and blocking too many shots (which causes injuries). I also think a "normal" home team storm should last about 5-10 minutes. Letting a team like Winnipeg just dominate us for the whole first period is too much IMO.
We'll see how things develop. By getting a lot of points with what I'd call so-so play, the team has effectively bought themselves time to improve. I think they can improve (of course I might be wearing my fan glasses there), but they also have to improve to keep racking up points. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah. I still don't understand even after watching it numerous times, how he made it go in. I just don't get how he managed to make it turn and go in. Amazing.
That JG goal was interesting to me from a Jets defensive coverage perspective vs. what we see from the E=NG thread. Jets weren't perfect, but defo better than oilies and JG still "bends it like Johnny" from a crazy angle.
On Glenn Healy...Squeely has been down on the flames at least since iggy and the crew put his pal Curtis Joseph out in 2004. That's what you get from an experienced bench door opener though.

The Jets were short handed.. they didn't play it that bad as you mentioned.

Let's not go crazy though. It was good to knock the puck away from the guy near him, but he almost made a perfect backdoor pass to TJG.
If that had happened it'd almost be a "this guy scored" pic.

For sure, but it was more the fact that they completely missed that element of the play that made me incredulous. If they had said "JG made a great defensive play there but also got lucky that it didn't go straight to TJG's stick" then that would be accurate. Instead they didn't really say much of anything, mostly that the Jets had a great chance but the puck bounced on them.
Add this to other similar "analysis" before this play and throughout the game and thus my conclusion that they're terrible.
A lot of Johnny's plays I feel like I've seen mirrors of them in McDavid highlight reels. This wrap around especially (acceleration is awesome, then wrap) and the banking the puck off the net one during worlds.
Not sure if it's my limited exposure to the plays of other individuals or if they do indeed have a similar tool set.
After watching Johnny's goal again, I noticed a couple things:
First, his acceleration is amazing - I was surprised how little forward momentum he actually had when he took the pass, but then he exploded around the net.
Second, after he received the pass, he actually faked a pass back out front before going around the back of the net for the wraparound. That fake froze Pavelec, preventing him from even coming close to covering the other side.
Here's the frame where Pavelec is still trying to block the pass out front - Johnny's already halfway around the back of the net:

Pfft and if TJ Galiardi had quicker reflexes and awareness he wouldn't be a fringe 4th liner. You're not giving Gaudreau credit for being a mental step ahead of his opponent

Not even close. It would be a bad bounce picture, but hardly a testament to everyone being out of position and a player all alone getting the puck and scoring.
