LOL.
That line about the lawyer saying just "allegations" ... that lawyer is going to hang up the phone and immediately make sure there is a retainer paid in advance of any further sniff on this file. This has "not going to get paid" written all over it.

Epic LOL.
Makes sense now. No business owner in the right mind would have sent those moronic emails to any candidate.

1. Set up a fake company website.
2. Pretend you're a bearded Norwegian.
3. Post job listings on your website.
4. Insult the candidates who apply to the listings.
5. ???
6. Profit.

Sounds like someone trying to start a business by projecting an image and hoping to attract the right people. A "if you build it, they will come" scenario.
Back when I lived in BC, my wife landed a job with a geological exploration company that promoted themselves as a world class company, with their own helicopter and dozens of staff. They used stock footage on their website making it look like they had a downtown office and other assets. When she got the job, she ended up working out of the persons house in Mission and sometimes had her paychecks bounce.

I had that thought too but then I read about one of their "brands" associated with male porn...
On a slightly more serious note, if true, this strategy would undoubtedly backfire. Think of all the people that they had already publicly insulted. I am pretty sure those same people will be ready to apply again just for the heck of it.
Human Rights tribunals are no joke. No matter how ridiculous the accusation is, any employer that had to go through a human rights complaint and a follow-up investigation even if it didn't reach a hearing, knows better than be that stupid.

No kidding. I don't usually practice in that area, but a legal assistant at my office who moonlighted as a security guard, did not attend a meeting his security guard company called, which was to be held on an Easter Sunday. When asked why he wouldn't attend, he responded, he was celebrating Easter Sunday with his family and could not attend. In response, they said in an email, that was garbage because he isn't even religious, and put a reprimand on his file. He came talked to me, I wrote a letter to their company stating he was constructively dismissed and we were about to sue and bring a human rights complaint. They got their (very good, one of the best firms) lawyers involved, and the matter was settled in a few days for money I would never have expected possible.
I didn't bill the legal assistant, but he was grateful and bought me a nice clock for my office which I still have.

Oh, so you are one of those people...
I had a guy, who after one month of employment asked for half of September off to celebrate the Jewish high holidays (the guy was as Scottish as they get, but nonetheless). I allowed the time-off without pay. He threatened to file a Human Rights complaint. We paid him for two weeks just to avoid having to deal with that thing and then fired him before his probationary period expired.

I never said I was in support of what happens. In my example, the silly employer deserved it. In your example, there are much larger issues at stake. For example, had he wanted Christmas off till New Years because he was Christian.....

My point is, in most companies, that would be fine, as almost everyone else is off as well.

I am a Trinity Western Grad...and I am for one "ethnically" Jewish---and extremely non-religious. People who think TWU is solely a bible banging school are wrong. I was welcomed with open arms, and in fact got A's all throughout my time there when I challenged "controversial" Christian worldviews. I have attended other universities, and none have even come close to meeting the level of education I got at TWU.
People who see TWU on a resume, and automatically discount them is unfair IMO.

Let me be more clear. And I think we're going to see more of this in the future. Right now everyone celebrates Christmas... or at least I thought so. Its not as prevalent any more-- as in-- its not unanimous. There are many good people I've met who work with me or are clients or otherwise, who celebrate the Jewish holidays, the Chinese holidays, or Ramadan, and do not celebrate Christmas. In some cases these people say they don't work at Christmas only because no one else does and they can't get work done as a result. Its a sign of the times that eventually the religious and cultural holidays that are not traditional in Canada will be more accommodated, and they'll become as known and accepted as Christmas, for example. This has been happening for a while and its only a matter of time until it becomes part of the fabric of the culture.

I see what you're saying. That's totally different though in my example. There is no point in requesting someone to work when the rest of the company is off for a Christmas break (even if paid). He had requested a paid time-off to observe two weeks of holidays (even though the actual Jewish New Year and Yom Kippur only take 2-3 days, actually). He had no chance of winning that complaint in HR Commission but he practically knew that we would not bother fighting it. That's the beauty of our HR tribunals.

Did you have any issue agreeing to an ethical covenant based on Protestant Christian values for the duration you attended?

I don't know much about the Jewish holidays but yeah, those that are Jewish whom I have worked with have taken a few days off for their events and I've never seen it be a problem for anyone, and in fact supported.
I agree with your fundamental point... pay him, don't make an issue of it and avoid the HR commission... I am not a fan of the HR commission and its powers.

haha nope...I don't even remember signing it...furthermore, I drank on campus often--- I don't use drugs--but saw people smoking weed often.
I am by no means a Saint...

So atheists will have to work through religious holidays?

I was in my bunker the other day folding my tinfoil hats and wondering who would have had anything to gain out of this ordeal and the answer that kept springing immediately to mind was; Christian Trinity Grads...
But then I double-checked my stocks of rice and boxed water (its better) and spent a few hours oiling my rifles and thought to myself that that couldnt be.
Simply put, Trinity grads wouldnt do that. Well...they might try, but lets be honest, it'd probably be obvious...
