The risk with that is confidence. They're going to send him down if he's not ready regardless. If he doesn't make it he could get discouraged, and that's where you can hamper development. We can all wax poetic about how athletes don't/shouldn't have feelings, but it's not realistic. If you keep a player up, you better be sure they belong

The kid has been told he wasn't good/big enough for a decade now.... I highly doubt that an amazing experience of playing in the NHL for 2-3 weeks to start his professional career then being sent to the AHL for the time being would damper his growth or drive to be a everyday NHLer.

I am so curious as to what's going to happen with Raymond, Backlund and Jones back. I have no idea. My gut says they're going to get roster spots and all the kids will get sent down, to be called up immediately when Jones gets hurt again. My heart hopes that at least one or two stay up somehow!

Randy Sportak ‏@SUNRandySportak 3m3 minutes ago Hartley said Backlund, Jones and Raymond expected to practice with the main group tomorrow. #Flames

Derek Wills ‏@Fan960Wills 2m2 minutes ago Bob Hartley tells us that any player still with the #Flames still has a chance to make the team - including Sam Bennett and Johnny Gaudreau.

Just like Monahan situation last year. Keep the positive momentum of the player going.
Honestly if they are worried about his small build and physical play he will be more of a target in the AHL for goonery then in the NHL.
If Johnny was 6ft and 210 the Flames would be thrilled with his preseason games thus far.
The kid is only going to get better week by week playing with the Flames and will be a big boost to their PP.

Bennett and Johnny, despite differences in style, share the same drive to excel. That's why they have such an upside. Wherever they play this season, that motivation will remain strong.

Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson
Also, expect the #Flames to announce at least a couple of cuts today.

Jooris is not cut

Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson
A couple young'ns leaving Saddledome today with gear, but #Flames RW Josh Jooris still here. The 24-year-old is making quite a case.

Ferland, Wotherspoon, Sieloff and Sven is my guess. Assuming the injured guys can get sent down.

I guess they can't cut a guy the morning after scoring two goals. I think Darryl wouldn't have had a problem doing it though. IIRC he benched Kobasew the next game after he scored two goals.

I think he deserves it and hope Ferland gets in the Saturday game.

I believe Mitch Wahl had 3 points in his first pre-season game and was sent down the next day by Sutter.

Edit - apparently it was only 2 points, but he filled in for Stajan who left the game hurt.

I'm thinking Bennett, Klimchuck, Seiloff, 'Spoon and Ferland are heading back. Maybe Sven too.

The fact that they haven't signed Diaz makes me wonder if they aren't going to wait until after saturday's game to decide if Wotherspoon will be ready or if they need to backfill with Diaz.

I think its more likely they are waiting to see if anyone they like becomes available on waivers or for a late pick (if they feel one of the 3 teams ahead of them would grab the player)

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames have assigned Michael Ferland & Patrick Sieloff to the @AHLFlames. Morgan Klimchuk has been assigned to the @WHLpats.

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames roster currently sits at 30 players (3 goalies, 9 defencemen, 18 forwards) ~ cflam.es/1vAfJE5

Good to see that Klimchuk is healthy, now he can go back to Juniors, hopefully rip it up and have a solid chance at making the World Junior team.
