I wasn't at the game, but if it's the same song they play at every other game for the 3 stars it's: Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders.

Treliving told Loubo before the game that given the circumstances of the game he hoped that one of the kids "on the bubble" would break through and rise above, and show them that he belongs.

There was only one who did tonight, as far as I'm concerned

Johnny Gaudreau dazzles as Flames beat Colorado Avalanche in NHL pre-season game

Quote:
"That was the price of admission,” Flames head coach Bob Hartley told reporters in his post-game press conference. “I don’t know if you guys got excited, but on the bench, the guys reacted like fans, and the fans really appreciated Johnny’s effort out there.”

You could tell.

“Getting to come out here and hear a crowd like this after I get a chance to score a goal, it’s something pretty special,” Gaudreau said. “I’ll remember it until the next one.

“Hopefully, I get the one pretty quick here and hear it again.”
Quote:
“It feels good to get that first one out of the way,” said Gaudreau, who has 18 shots on goal in four exhibition appearances. “I was kind of clenching my stick a little too hard there throughout the pre-season, just trying to get that first one. Thankfully, I got it out of the way.

“It’s not up to me to pick the team,” he added. “But I have to make sure I’m showing the coaching staff and the management that I can be a part of this team. If I keep playing well and keep getting opportunities offensively and making sure the puck stays out of our net defensively when I’m on the ice, then I think I might have a pretty good shot.”

He says all the right things. And Geezus, 18 shots in 4 games?

How do you not keep the kid? There's no way. It's evident that Bob is impressed. I really hope that Johnny was just gripping the stick too tight. I hope that the goal tonight settles him down and back to being as productive as his usual self.

I think he'll put up when it starts to matter next week, and the AHL speculation will be in the rear view mirror.

Man, if he thought the reaction tonight was good, wait until he scores one of his dazzling goals in a full Saddledome against the Canucks or Oilers.

1) mark me down for getting that cyrus gif out of here. No place for that here
2) Gaudreau's interviews remind me of Joe Mullen interviews. Really gracious and says the right things. Still hoping he starts here, but my gut says he starts down on the farm.

I hope they give him the #13 jersey soon. He looks damned good in the red jersey.

Any way Gaudreau, Baertschi and Ferland all make the cut without some trades? They're all looking great.

Never has a hockey player made squeal like a little school girl. Much toe drag. Many top shelf cheese. Wow.

I thought Berra looked solid and deserved a star on the night, more so than Hiller, given the higher quality of chances.

He gets dumped on a lot around here, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a really good year.

I love that they played Johnny B Goode after his goal.

Not great nights for Monahan or Baertschi IMO.

Don't understand the negative comments on Glencross - thought he was solid.

Diaz struggled.

I thought Ferland was solid - he was certainly engaged physically.

Hiller was great.
Glencross is in the same spot Phaneuf was back in the day. Any game he doesn't score a hat trick will result in some fans saying he played like crap. I haven't seen the third period stats, but through the first two periods, Glencross' line was crushing the Avs in terms of possession. That line was a major reason why Colorado wasn't a significant threat in the first 40.

Sven and Sean didn't have great nights offensively, but I liked what I saw from both in other areas. Monahan was finding open spots, and Baertschi looked much improved fighting along the boards compared to last year.

Add Acolatse to the "really good" group for me. He looked quietly solid from what I saw.

I do wonder if Acolatse has a shot at the 7th defenseman job. Diaz is redundant on a team with Russell and he's at best the 4th best PP option on the team (Gio, Wideman, Russell).

Brookbank hasn't looked great and Acolatse can bring some toughness that you know the Flames love.

I really don't think any of the 3 will be on the flames roster come opening night. My guess is the flames pick up the 7th dman on waivers near the start of the season.

Hartley loves Diaz, so count on him making the roster.

From what I'm seeing though, we will see Acolatse in Flames' silks at some point during the season.

Hiller looks deadly in the red pads. Huge upgrade on Reto Berra and Joey MacDonald. Solid goaltending display right there. Ramo has looked great as well. We could surprise some teams this season with solid play between the pipes.

Colborne seems to be the unsung hero. Looks like he has good chemistry with Gaudreau. Nice no-look passes and must have gotten the assist on "the Goal".

We have a lot to be excited about in the coming years. Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Colborne, Baertschi, Granlund and Ferland all look like NHL-level talents with solid careers ahead of them.
