I've read that criticism a lot about Destiny, that it's repetitive. Looking for an honest answer here, is there such a thing as a non-repetitive shooter? I mean, all of them are essentially shoot guys in the head, rinse and repeat. Online only serves to amplify the issue, with you shooting other people in the same maps over and over again. Sure, they change things up by mixing up the objectives (capture the flag, deathmatch, etc.), but these are staples of the genre for the past 20 years since I was a kid.

People are upset because the story in Destiny doesn't live up to Halo expectations, but this isn't Halo and wasn't ever meant to be. What Destiny does, it does extremely well. I encourage you to stick with it until you have an opportunity to try some of the higher level stuff, because at 21, you are just starting to experience mission modifiers, which increase the number of enemies, their aggression levels, forces you to use the right weapon for the right shields, disables respawns, makes it impossible to stagger the AI, reduces the amount of ammo you have at your disposal forcing you to better manage your inventory, etc.

There's a lot of depth here that many people have discovered, because they stuck with it. If all you're doing is story missions on your own, I can definitely see how you'd get bored pretty quickly. I assure you there's more meat to the game than that, though.

I get that you love this game and I'm totally fine with your opinion and I agree the game is really good in some aspects but I've played too many good games in my life to look past Destiny's flaws. COD takes a lot of flack and justifiably so but this game is on a whole new level of shallowness. Outside of new players who's going to be playing this game by middle of October and the fall titles start hitting shelves as a lot of people have already put it down and even you have accomplished pretty well as much as you can only three weeks after launch. What's going to keep you coming back for the next few months?

Terrible game? Absolutely not. Memorable game? Nope. It was a great game to fill in a few weeks of what has been a bad dry spell for next gen consoles but this game will never be looked at as a classic or GOTY worthy.

Totally agree, this game is a blast to play with a bunch of buddies. I usually stay away from DLC but I'll be getting the season pass for this one.

I was going to say that 110 hours is a lot, but thinking back to some COD games, I'm pretty sure I racked up 250-300 hours gameplay.
Although that was over ~9-10 months, not 1...
Jeez Asshandler, slow down!

Hmm, only 87 hours. That's almost 30 hours a week. Destiny could almost be my fulltime job.

Just beat the raid earlier today. A little anti-climatic joining a pub group just at the last boss. My reward? Ascendant Shards. Definitely doable at 28. At that point you just need to not die. Looking forward to doing it with friends instead.

How do you find a pub group for a raid?

I have no idea how anyone could play 110 hours of Vanguard in this game, let alone in three weeks. Mind-numbing.

Because it's designed to be a ever changing beast over the next decade. More raids, higher level caps, planets, quests, things to go do. If this was the final, finished version of the game, never to be updated again and we were left to do Vault of Glass over, and over, and over, and over until Destiny 2, then yeah, I would of stopped playing by now.

The game is shallow, yes, but it's just the beginning

Well that's what they are telling you at least. Seeing they never delivered on their initial promises on the retail version of the game why would you be inclined to believe that it's really just the beginning of anything other than adding some DLC for you to continue grinding over and over? I'm not a fan of developers shipping half baked games that aren't finished product. I believe the first expansion isn't even a new planet. IMO Bungie/Activision sunk so much money into the game they felt the only way to ensure it was profitable was to scale down the retail version and nickel and dime gamers with the rest of the game over DLC. If you really look at the content we got for $70 it amounts to a 6-8 hour game. Some people like me simply don't have 30+ hours to sink into playing the same missions over and over again to level up in the 20's that are painfully slow. I spent 1.5 hours last night grinding away replaying levels/strikes I've already replayed numerous times and the single piece of light armour I receive is for a Hunter class so it's useless to me. That frustrating to me not fun.

The foundation is laid out so I don't see what's going to change going forward as the formula likely won't change. The expansions are going to be light on content and simply require considerably more grinding for the people that have hours to spare daily replaying the game over and over. There's a reason the reviews are so low for this game as much as the gaming media wanted to love this game they couldn't give it a good score based on the fact for all it's polish it's a very flawed game.

Wow, 3 weeks later and you're still playing. Glad to see you're getting your money's worth out of it.

In other news, anyone up for a raid this weekend? I think I'm set for one now at level 27.

I've played about 27 hours and I am level 23. I don't think the game is as bad as EE makes it sound, but then Ass Handler makes it sound better than it is.

I still say it's more entertaining than a COD game. Correct me if I am wrong, but can you still get engrams dropped in the PvP games?

I never said the game was bad. Not once. It's just not great. Even if you read the low reviews for the game nobody ever says the game is bad as they all say it does some things really well, it's just the flaws are inexcusable. It's just another one of those games that had very high expectations and didn't quite deliver. Good game just not great game. Anyway I don't want to sidetrack the thread as my comments were more to Steve who may have taken offense to my question of how far I would have to level up to play the next DLC as I don't feel like putting the time in to level any higher in the current game.

I'm not sure why you have to be combative all the time. I know you didn't say the game was bad, all I was saying that I think it was better than you were making it out to be. I think the game is somewhere inbetween what you say and what StrykerSteve says, hence not as bad as your opinion and not as good as his.

I was just clarifying I never said the game was bad as you insinuated. I don't consider that combative at all. As you say it's somewhere in between which is a good game as I said it was. I would have traded it in for $40 store credit if I hated it but I'm holding on to it for the DLC's.

Yes you can.

Having this much playtime, I can honestly say it's been getting very stale for myself as well. Though the loot collecting (exotics/Raid gear) and just being able to play with friends is what's keeping me on for so long while still having fun.

For me, I typically play a game for it's story. I enjoy cinematic adventures like Uncharted and Last of Us.

The irony here is Destiny sucks at the aspect I normally enjoy the most. Yet I adore the gameplay. It's just plain fun to shoot things and navigate the world.

In that respect, Bungie nailed it.

Add the coop element, and it's definitely scratching an itch for me.
