I'd prefer McDavid because I see him more as an elite point getting player like a Crosby style of player where Eichel would be amazing too as I see him as a Getzlaf kind of player. Both are pretty awesome and I'd be happy getting the #2 pick so we wouldn't have to choose lol. Out of those two I'd take McDavid but I'd be happy with either. Out of Hanafin or Kylington I'd take Hanafin but I"d be happy with either at 4

If we get the 1st pick, I pick McDavid. I think there is a larger gap between McDavid and Eichel than Eichel and Hanifin. If we are in the bottom 5, we are picking someone good.

Yea, I think people saying they prefer Eichel are just saying it to be different. Of course things can change before June, but right now McDavid looks to be the clear #1 with Eichel being a great consolation prize at #2.

Elite Scorer (Eichel) / Elite Playmaker (Mcdavid)
I don't even care, if we get either or I'll be excited.

Hypothetically speaking...

If we get one of McDavid/Eichel at the 2015 draft, do we switch one of Monahan/Bennett/(McD/Eichel) to wing? McDavid, Monahan, and Bennett, all shoot left. Eichel shoots right.

2015/16 Line-up
Raymond Monahan Eichel
Gaudreau Backlund Colborne
Baertschi Bennett Poirier
Bollig Bouma Reinhart

Trade? Hudler, Glencross, Stajan
Not listed - Granlund, Klimchuk
UFA/RFA - McGrattan, Byron

Life would be easier if we get one of Hanifin/Kylington.

Sorry Fonz, I disagree. McDavid is (at this point) the best player in the draft so it would be better if we got him. No one has proven to be a #1 franchise guy so you do what you can to get that player. We could always move one of our forwards in a trade for defence but getting that start player like McDavid or Eichel would be the priority. It may be easier to just draft a defenseman but if given the chance I'd still prefer one of the top 2.

That said, I'd still love to get pick 3 or 4 too as a defenseman would help this team a lot lol.

Eichel plays both C and RW. So, if we did get Eichel (assuming we are 2nd OA), then I'd probably get him used to RW on our squad.

You don't shift the most talented center in your system to the wing. I'd say in this situation you switch Bennett to the wing, cause Monahan and Eichel have the size that's needed for the Pacific division.

Well that would be a situation where you'd have to see who's more valuable/productive on the wing as opposed to playing centre. If Eichel has spent time on the wing and wouldn't have to adjust his game much and could still be as affective then you see how Monahan or Bennett or someone else would do on the wing. I agree that Eichel at centre would be ideal but if he plays the wing it would be great to have a big scoring winger back in the organization...

How deep is this draft? Are we talking 2003 deep with basically everyone making the NHL at some point in time. Or top 5 elite prospects and a fall off from there.

Default Mckenzie: Hockey fans will soon know the name hanifin

Quote:
"There's not a huge gap between McDavid or Eichel and Hanifin but there is, to start the season anyway, a gap between those top three and everyone else," said one head scout of an NHL team. "(Hanifin) is at a disadvantage simply because he's a defenceman and the other two guys are centres. But (Hanifin) could be Scott Niedermayer. He skates like him."

Hanifin is a shade under 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds. The scouting report says he has world-class wheels, elite offensive skills, can run a power play and use his size effectively to play physically when it's required. He's not quite as big as Nashville Predator Seth Jones, the last prospect, before Hanifin, who went into his NHL draft year billed as the next great American defenceman. Some scouts like Hanifin better than Jones at the same stage of development. Others think the jury is still out on that. Regardless, Hanifin is certainly viewed as being in the same universe as the top defenceman from the 2013 NHL draft, who was ranked No. 1 much of his draft year before going fourth overall to Nashville.

Disagree with what?

I asked a question. Do we switch one of Monahan, Bennett, McDavid/Eichel, over to wing? Putting Eichel in the lineup was just an example of how it could look if he was the player we got.

Whenever Bennett has been put with other elite talent (e.g. Hockey Canada teams) he usually ends up on the wing.

Just saying.

I disagree that it would be easier if we got one of Hanafin or Kylington. Sorry lol. Bennett or Eichel could be switched to the wing (RW) but McDavid or Monahan would probably be kept at centre.

A lot of highlight videos of Bennett from last season show him playing wing as well. It wouldn't at all surprise me if he slots in at the wing at least to start his pro-career.

Best draft since 2003 good. McDavid and Eichel are possibly the best duo since Ovy Malkin in 04 (if not, they are close)

Hanifin and Kylington I consider to be better prospects than Ekblad.

It's a good draft. Put it this way, I could see our second round pick becoming as good of a prospect as a 15th-20th overall pick was in the past couple seasons. Very deep.

With our abundance of left wingers and lack of right wingers, having one or more of these guys slide to the wing wouldn't be that bad at all.

Johnny -McDavid-Bennett
or
Johnny-Monahan-Eichel

as a top line those look pretty sick.
