Hard to say.
Winnipeg, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Toronto are three teams wallowing in mediocrity.
Montreal has evolved past mediocrity, but their top-end isn't clear.
The Flames are on the low end with their fate tied to the successful completion of a rebuild.
Edmonton is bad.
In the end, it's a toss-up. Nobody is close, and nobody is going to get there without being vastly different teams than they are now.
Pretty much anyone but Edmonton has a shot to do it within the next 5 years, but not without significant improvement.

I'd put money on MTL doing it before any other Canadian team.
If the Oilers get it right eventually, they do have the talent to get there. But they'll never get it right.
The Jets need a bonafide numero uno Goalie, without one, they're going nowhere.
Ottawa, who knows, they're all over the map and you can never really tell how things will play out with them from year to year.
Toronto, I suppose they could do it. They actually made a few smart, very small moves this year. Could pay off as a couple of those additions could very well be the glue that keeps the ship afloat.
Vancouver, Meh. Maybe if their team phsyciatrist can get the players to get over the Torts damage and Ryan Miller gets back to his old ways, sure. And I will vomit.
Calgary, Two years after Bennett makes the club full time they'll make noise. Who knows though.
As the the old adage goes though, anything can happen once you get into the playoffs.

Montreal and it ain't even close. Good young core gaining more and more playoff experience each year, learning how to win. Excellent goaltending.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them in the SCF this year or next.

Nice thread. Almost as good as the "rank canadian teams" thread that only got updated when the Jets were ahead of Flames.
Jets fans are a special group.

Love how he starts a thread and then just doesn't reply at all anymore to questions about his ludicrous claims.

Step away from the kool-aid. The Jets have a mediocre team as it is, and as soon as they get any players worth a damn they will not be able to afford them. The Jets will never win the Stanley Cup and will probably move to a better market in the next decade.

it's always the team that you nleast expect to bring home the bacon. Having said that, I believe in the Jets. They need to tweak the team somewhat. Letting Montoya walk, and not buying out Pavelec looks like it could be a bad move. However, from all accounts, Pavs is in the best shape of his life, and finally may turn the corner.
Trouba? Future Norris Trophy candidate?
Scheifele? star forward
Ehlers? upcoming star
Morrisey? top 6 defensemen.
Kane finally has the help he needs to have a breakthrough year.
Byfugelien is also in the best shape since coming from Chicago
The upcoming young goalies (Hutch/Hellebuyck/Comrie) could blossom into the finest netminders in the league.
Winnipeg is a team on the rise.

No, it's not. If this is the premise you start from then all is explained.

Montreal is easily the closest, but I don't think they'll get there.
I don't see any current rosters winning it, so it'll be whoever builds best for the future. I'd say it's at least 3-5 years before a Canadian team is seriously in the mix again.
