You could almost see the writing on the wall at the end of the 2012-13 season when he had that point streak and the Calgary media lined up to ask him if he wanted to be the face of the franchise with Iginla gone.

Yikes

It was almost like a reset button was hit sending him back to that five game audition the year before.

Things haven't gone well since, and hopefully that gets him back in the headspace to not see himself as arrived but go out and prove he's arrived.

Remember, both Brodie and Backlund when through the break down and rebuild of their games at the AHL level. It works. The key is the mental side from the player in accepting it, and embracing the change.

Who do you think would take the 7th spot? Is it between Diaz, Wotherspoon, Brookbank, and Cundari? What is your opinion on Brookbank? Seem to travel a lot? I guess all other things being equal we want guys with good ethic and leadership. Does he bring that? Tyler is not healed yet. May be he would benefit by starting in the AHL when he gets back? Cundari I don't think can be ahead of SB and Diaz. I see him as having some grit of SB and the size of Diaz. Actually looks like he is shorter but may be stockier than Diaz.
I think Russell & Diaz are going to battle for 1 spot (if Diaz looks good he may win out since he's a RH shot).

I also think the #6A spot is Wotherspoon's unless he's flat at camp. #6B will be Engelland (will get thrown into games vs teams with larger forwards). It's a lot of money for a guy who won't play a lot of games, but I think his presence in the room and at practices is an underrated factor of why he's here.

Russell is younger, more experienced and actually signed to a contract. Diaz would have to injure Russell in order to take his spot.

Wotherspoon was injured for the Rookie Tournament, haven't heard if he'll even be ready for the start of the year. I imagine he'd start in the AHL regardless and be the first call-up.

Him and Sven both look much bigger and stronger.

Hopefully they are given the opportunity to continue that chemistry we saw early in the season last year.

I heard that now when Monahan does squats, he doesn't lift the weight, he simply pushes the earth down.

Pretty sure Wotherspoon will start in the A, he was here Vancouver rehabbing his shoulder not that long ago at Fortius. Somewhere I have a video of it, friend works there and sent it to me. My feeling is he is a regular by the end of the year. I am pretty high on Wotherspoon.

Hopefully we can pick up his younger brother in the 2nd round this year!

I don't think it's possible to gain 15 pounds of muscle over one off-season. I think Roger is a little quick on the trigger with that tweet.

A fair few bumps and bruises to start camp off.

It's too bad this wasn't somehow televised or streamed. If it wasn't for work I'd be at Winsport today to check it out.

Disappointed that some guys didn't make it to camp healthy, for whatever reason. Hopefully it's nothing too serious, especially for Backlund and Bennett.
