Adrian Peterson - Charged w Child Abuse

Lord I just can't imagine what would provoke me to hit my daughter - even a spank. I know parents lose their temper and lose control - but I can't imagine laying a hand on her, or how that would help her in any way, shape or form.
I'm a relatively new parent (daughter is 2.5 years old) so maybe I'm naive. And I think consequences are important. But there are so many other choices available to you as a parent as opposed to physically hurting your child.

Peterson should be tossed from the league. I just dearly hope if that happens (which it won't) that the CFL doesn't scoop in and give him a job. If it did - I'm done.

The CFL doesn't allow suspended NFL players to play here. The rule was implemented by Tom Wright after the Ricky Williams mess.

man, the NFL is handling things in such a poor manner, it's making them look worse and worse. The after the fact, reactionary response is in clear day light to the world to see.

With ray rice, initially they handed out 2 days, then reacted to the public outcry and changed the punishment protocols, then the video came out, and all of a sudden only after seeing what was already written in the police reports is it really bad and the player is suspended by both the team and the league.

peterson was just fine, and was playing, but as soon as corporate sponsors start bailing, suddenly the tune changes immediately and the guy is told to stay away from the team.

this type of reactionary action is really exposing the league. lack of leadership, lack of direction or foundational standing on the moral line they want to draw for their employees.

the old saying of "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything" seems ring true for me here in the leagues handling of these issues.

It's a league run on money and public opinion so it's not surprising that they react to it.

Ray Rice really has a good case against the league and the Ravens.

A) Goodell can't increase Rice suspension from 2 game to indefinitely based on the same information that Rice already told Goodell that he punched his fiancee in the face. The video doesn't change that.

B) Goodell can't say that players will get 6 games for a first offense and then suspend Rice infinitely for a first offense.So he can only increase from 2 to 6.

in addition to that....

C) under the CBA a team can't cut an already suspended player for the same offense.

Well, there's no sense pretending the NFL is unique among either sports leagues or businesses in general here. The almighty dollar is what rules most decisions and the path of least resistance is often not far behind.

The move to re-instate Peterson reeked of an owner who knew damn well that right now his team is rolling with Matt Cassel at QB no longer supported with the running back they planned to roll with, and is likely to be 1-3 before too long. Try and get him in playing while he can in hopes that the season doesn't get lost too early.

Yep I don't see anyway that the NFL does not lose this case. Rice will be back. The drug deal being ratified is returning some players as well.

Be clear there will be times when you feel like hitting your child or screaming at your child, but hopefully you won't.

That is what makes you an adult.

I like this. Not hearing about all these brutal abuses of women and children but I like the outrage that is being aimed at the NFL and its athletes. They have received many a free pass over the years and that has surely done nothing to curb these horrible behaviors.

Report: Vikings 'do not foresee' Adrian Peterson 'in their future'

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Peterson "is in denial" about his short- and long-term future in Minnesota.

"Several league sources say Adrian Peterson has not come to grips with the fact that his 2014 has all but officially ended," Mortensen said Sunday morning. "His goal to break Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record is now a fading dream. And his future is in doubt after being indicted for these child abuse charges related to inflicting injuries on his four-year old son."

A source told Mortensen that Peterson "really doesn't get it" and "he is in denial" when it comes to his future with the Vikings and the 2014 season.'

Additionally, it's possible Peterson's time in Minnesota will end sooner than expected. Mortensen reported the Vikings "themselves do not foresee Peterson in their future."

The 38-page police report details a night of drinking, arguing and sex that involved the running back, two relatives — including Peterson’s brother, a minor — and four women, in various pairs. One of those present, Chris Brown, a Peterson relative who lives with him in Eden Prairie, told police that he paid for the room using a company credit card for Peterson’s All Day, Inc.

As the night wore on, the report says, one woman who said she knew Peterson previously became upset when she saw him having sex with another woman. She started an argument that lasted at least an hour. According to the report, when she told him that she was “emotionally attached to him,” Peterson reminded her that he was engaged to another woman and had a baby.

Peterson’s indictment has also thrown a spotlight on his charity, Adrian Peterson’s All Day Foundation, which focuses on at-risk children, particularly girls. The charity shut down its website following the September indictment.

The charity’s 2011 financial report showed $247,064 in total revenue, and listed just three organizations that received money. A fourth outlay, entitled simply “clothing for needy families,” listed “unknown” for the number of recipients.

In 2009, the charity said its largest gift, $70,000, went to Straight From the Heart Ministries in Laurel, Md. But Donna Farley, president and founder of the Maryland organization, said it never received any money from Peterson’s foundation. “There have been no outside [contributions] other than people in my own circle,” said Farley. “Adrian Peterson — definitely not.”

The East Texas Food Bank, based in Tyler, said it received money from Peterson’s foundation in 2009, although the foundation’s tax filing for the year listed just one donation to a food bank — the North Texas Food Bank, based in Dallas.

Peterson is scum. The details of this case are borderline psychotic at this point and seem to continue to get worse. I wouldn't even do him the service of holding a parental spanking in the same conversation (which they are not). I've never heard of a spanking that inflicts serious physical and mental damage on a child to the extent this kid has been subjected to.

If the NFL doesn't add a lengthy suspension to this after all is said and done I sure hope big co's start dropping endorsements. Its unbelievable that these degenerates (peterson/rice etc) are less penalized by the league then someone like browner who rolls a couple joints every month or two.

The fall continues (will it ever end?)

Montgomery County prosecutors have filed documents to have suspended Minnesota Vikings player Adrian Peterson arrested again after he admitted to using drugs in violation of his bond conditions, FOX 26 News has learned.

Court records show while giving his urine sample Wednesday Peterson admitted to a staffer he had 'smoked a little weed' before the test. As a result of that, the Montgomery County District Attorney has asked the judge in this case to set aside Peterson's $15,000 bond and have him arrested again. However, there won't likely be any action on Thursday because the current judge presiding over Peterson's case is facing a recusal hearing scheduled to take place on Friday morning.

Peterson's attorney Rusty Hardin has not been available for comment
