Pretty sure that's what was being hoped for with Oil Change... but alas, that didn't go quite to Lowe's plan.

I don't think Lowe has a plan.

Ehhhh, it was really cool the first few seasons, but it had run it's course.
Not to mention, I think a lot of the teams were getting tired of doing them. They may have been having trouble getting interest or access.

it was getting pretty vanilla. Coaches and players were getting more and more reserved not wanting to come off as foul mouthed Neanderthals. I still enjoyed it, however it wasn't as real or unrehearsed as the original this past season.

The Leafs/Red Wings one killed it. It was lifeless, especially the Red Wings... zero personality.

cant imagine how tough the editor's job for Oil Change is, how do you find a competent hour of Edmonton Oiler hockey a week?

Became redundant as has The Winter Classic. 24/7 during a playoff series would be 50 times better.

I agree, but I doubt any teams would go for that.

First one was interesting enough, all others were incredibly cliché and boring. Good riddance.

You wouldnt. Someone wearing a knife-proof vest might. But probably not you.

According to an NHL source what killed it was the actions of the Leafs and Wings. Both Carlyle and Babcock were abusive to camera and crews. In fact, one of the coaches destroyed some equipment. HBO was tired of the exercise.

I dont find that hard to believe, but at the same time camera crews are used to abuse, its part of the job.
I'm not saying it should happen, but anyone who watched behind the scenes footage of any reality-based show knows that the camera guys take a crapload of abuse.

I just hope that whatever replacement version they get isn't watered down and is able to maintain the production value of HBO.

This was pretty much the only good thing about the Winter Classic at this point.

I think part of it was the access too, HBO was promised 100% access
They get that for Hard Knocks, they have rooms in every meeting room, half time locker room, medical room etc.
there were times last season when both coaches removed them from the dressing room

That makes more sense.

When they highlight of the show is Randy Carlyle's bagel getting stuck in the toaster... yeah, it was pretty boring.

I preferred the Rangers/ Flyers one. Torts was good for a laugh. Crosby pissed me off so much with his incessant whining that I couldn't finish the first. Not a big Cros fan though.

The nhl brought HBO in, got a crash course in high production value and now it's time to try and duplicate it in house.

It was the NHL's fault. When they didn't let the cameras in for Phaneuf's disciplinary hearing it opened the door wide open for both of the coaches.
