Well, I have to say my willingness to invest in this year's team has decreased significantly. How disappointing this past while has been. At least they didn't cash in more prospects for help at the deadline - that's about all that could make this situation worse.
I don't know that you can trade Bautista - but I'm sure it'll be brought up a lot this off-season. I think if you see the Jays trade him, it'll be a full tear down. That contract is just so good.

^^^I agree. No sense in trading away either EE or Jose, your two best players on discount deals. Having said that I doubt AA will address any issues this off season.

Well you don't trade them at a discount... you have to try to get fair value for them. But if the team can't or won't address it's issues then it's pointless to hold onto them any longer. They're not getting any younger.
AA has to get Beeston to get Rogers to pony up enough extra budget room to address the teams needs via free agency (not through trade... the team needs it's top prospects to fill other holes) and in my mind that's a durable rotation pitcher of #3 quality or higher, an everyday middle infielder that can hit well, and an improved bench. That's on top of whatever it will cost to keep Melky and the escalating salary for those already on backloaded deals and edging further into arbitration. That or it's time to cut bait on the current crew of vets and start building anew.

If I were Rogers would I trust AA with more money? I've already given him 140 million and this is the team he's produced.
And this is with Bautista, Encarnation and Melky on perceived good contracts.

Could be worse, you could be the Rangers and have an even more bloated payroll and be in the basement.

Strangely enough, this season hurts a lot more than ones in years past (say last year when they'd been out of it for months already). I feel so negative about the team at the moment. That being said, when January rolls around, I'd love to watch a game, even one that sees a Jays team trying to stay above .500 and has no other meaning or importance.

Don't be hurt, it's the same team as last year. You were just faked out by an amazing May.

Is it safe to assume the RA Dickey era is over?

I think one of the problems with Dickey has been that he was presented as an ace to Jays fans, and he clearly isn't. If he had been brought in as a 3rd starter, he might look a little better.
Regardless of how disappointing this season has been, Hutchison did pitch a gem today. Another one-hitter!

On the other hand, being signed to a discount deal could increase their value on the trade market. Not saying they should trade them but I think they should be open to the possibility of making a move.

Homers in 5 straight for Bautista. When the hitters hit this offense can be pretty dangerous. 3 hitters basically turned the game around today.

Jeter given a trip to Banff by the Blue Jays. Likely better then some carving that'd be put on the shelf...though I don't think anyone will be bumping into him at the Rose and Crown or Wild Bill's.

Apparently the Jays just traded for John Mayberry Jr of the Phillies.

He doesn't seem like a good player at all, not good enough to bump anyone out if the lineup. I don't understand this. I think it's time to get a serious GM running this team, a guy who can make big boy moves, I no longer have faith in baby face AA.

Dickey was the Cy Young award winner, you can't really present him as anything else but an ace. AA bought high, now he'll probably have to sell low.

Right, I'm with you there. I'm just saying that he was presented as an ace when he really wasn't one.

He's actually an above average hitter against LHP who plays acceptable defense in the corner outfield and 1B and he's still under team control (albeit arbitration eligible).
In other words... meet the guy that bats for Adam Lind against lefties and can give your outfielders a day off from fielding once in a while in the process next year. It's a decent small pick-up.
Pierre is a non-prospect anyways he's below average defensively and has no plate recognition as a batter.

All things point to the Jays actually thinking he was an ace. They paid close to "Ace" prices to get him & he'd just won a Cy Young & Gold Glove so it's unsurprising that they presented him as one. That he turned out to just be a decent #3 is unfortunate considering how good D'Arnaud and Syndergaard would look on this team now.
