His lengthy holdout and then finally signing, while arriving to the team out of shape and unmotivated.
I've never despised a member of this team as much as Morris.

But for the D possibilities, we discussed this back in July under this thread:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138731
Sheldon brookbank
Corey Potter
Carlo Colaiacovo
Matt Gilroy
Mark Fraser
justin Falk
Ryan Whitney
Nolan Yonkman
Aaron Rome
Matt Taormina
Only Falk has signed since the last thread, all others remain on the market
With Treliving looking for those that play a 'heavy' game, Brookbank, Fraser, Yonkman and maybe Rome stand out. There was talk that Brookbank might re-up with the Blackhawks if they can make room, Yonkman has history with Treliving back in Phoenix, Fraser has history with Burke from Toronto and Rome was in Ducks organization when Burke was there.

I wonder if Rico Fata ever Googles himself, and wonders why he still gets so many hits here.

I'm happy with where the team is headed, time and time again it's been proven making big moves screws up teams, especially Calgary. We don't need massive change every year. We need prospects that can play. Forget big trades and huge free agency signings that change the dynamics of a team, how often does that lead to Stanley Cups? LA and Chicago sucked for years and developed their prospects and are now annual contenders.

ya, I am not a fan of this. I want to see Sieloff or Wotherspoon get that 6th spot, or alternate for that spot. I think it is easier to shelter those guys on the back end than some of the other prospects in the top 6 for example.
I really hope we don't sign someone, if we can get one of those two out of Boston I would be ok with one of those moves.

Seems weird that Engelland had 10 teams interested in him yet Brookbank is still unsigned. Would have thought he would be an obvious consolation prize to one of the 9 other teams that wanted Engelland

Weren't there reports that Engelland is a great guy and amazing in the room? There could be a lot more to it than just the playing styles of these two. I thin/hope 10 teams wanted Engelland because of who he is more than how he plays.

Unless a rookie pushes themselves into a top6 role in camp, seiloff/wotherspoon would be better suited getting pro mins with the heat. It would be terrible having a kid in that #7 spot. When the flames say they're looking for depth d, i assume they are looking for a NHL caliber #7 so as to not be in a position to pull a kid who may not be ready or who won't be getting much ice time even if he gets dressed.

Talk about the island of misfit toys....
I'd rather put Cundari in. There is no risk of hurting his development because he won't likely become an NHL'er anyways, and he manhandled Parise in his short stint with the club so I think he would work in a pinch.

I wouldn't mind Wotherspoon getting the 7th spot but he's coming off shoulder surgery so I'm not sure how ready he is. At the 7th spot he'd probably get 50 games in which is reasonable. Seiloff is no way ready because of his health problems. He's only played 53 games in the last two years.

He is a close second for my, no player has yet taken the place of Gary Leeman, even typing his name makes me mad.

Wotherspoon is not going to be the 7th defenceman. He's still young, he'd be better off being on the top pairing with the baby Flames than he would be in the press box on most nights.

That depends on injuries and how the other defencemen play. Like I said if he can get in 50 or so games, he'd be fine with the big club. If he sits too long send him down until he's needed again. There isn't a law in how you break in a new player, sometimes you have to adjust to the situation.
