Nascar and all of it's affiliates will learn from this and implement the no getting out of your car until the track crew arrives rule. Terrible accident but he really should not have been out on the track like that in the first place.
For one this wasn't Nascar and two, Nascar already has that rule and likely so does Super Sprint. unfortunately this rule gets broken a lot.
Stiffer fines/suspensions for those who break these rules will now likely be enforced, once again it takes a death for safety to be enforced.
Aside from the death of the young man, I was appalled that Stewart was initially going to race in today's Nascar race. I know injury and death may happen in racing but to think of racing hours after being involved in an accident of this nature is something I couldn't do.

Appalled?
I don't find it odd for him to continue racing, if anything he may handicap himself via distraction but it is his profession.
Kinda OT but why is Tony Stewart racing sprint cars anyways? I know most of the drivers do like to go back to their roots or have sponsorship obligations but this is like Jeff carter going to play a beer league game the night before the Stanley cup finals. I realize that it has nothing to with what happened, but being out there against a bunch of week end warriors and up and coming drivers is really no place for a professional racer.
Sprint car racing is wreck after wreck, but I can hear the lawsuit coming....

While I get its human nature for any non-terrible person to want this to be nothing but an accident, this quote from the track president (title?) feels really gross: “I can’t see that anybody would’ve done anything intentional like that. He's been great when he’s with us. We’ve had a very good relationship with Tony. We’ve been proud to have him in our field. He’s raced hard. He’s raced clean. He respects what we have to offer. Even what he is, when he comes to our races, he’s there to race. He’s not under contract to some of these tracks, he just shows up.”
So galling thing from my perspective seems to be the general attitude of the investigator's quotes which are somewhere between "nothing to see here" and "LOL, whatevs". If I ran over someone with my car driving home from dinner and killed them, I doubt it would be the same thing, even if that person did in fact run out in front of me and I wasn't at fault. I don't think the police and investigators would be completely pooh-poohing my potential culpability immediately after the accident.

What I think is very probable, it this kid was out in the track trying to show up Stewart, and Stewart gave the engine a rev to kick the tail out and scare him, and teach a 'good ole boy lesson' to the young punk kid, and ended up killing him. Accidental or not, Tony Stewart killed this kid. The PC over reaction to the thread title is ridiculous. If and NHL player hit someone with a perfectly clean hit, that resulted in death, he still killed the guy.
The kid should have never run out on the track to confront Stewart, but I am willing to bet this is very far from over once more footage is dug up.

So you speculate that Stewart kicked out the rear end with no proof, then chastise other posters for reacting to an over the top thread title? Sure, ok.
Regardless of Stewarts intention or not, he killed the kid. His vehicle, which he was in control of, whether intentional or not, hit and ended the life on another human being.
If someone stepped out in traffic, and I unintentionally ran them over, and it was their fault, I am still the person that killed them.
How can you not get that? Regardless of the scenario.
Or are you some NASCAR fanboy and Stewart is your hero?

You accused him of kicking out the rear end and killing the kid with no proof at all that he was doing anything but trying to avoid the kid. You get that's an extremely serious accusation right? And to then chastise others because they didn't jump to the same conclusion you did I found a liitle funny. As for the fanboy shot, my comment wasn't meant as a personal attack man.

I thought it kind of looked like that also but I read on a few forums that know racing that those cars and the quote
"Stewart may have hit the gas, but you steer sprint cars with the throttle more than with the steering wheel. The idea that he accelerated trying to hit Ward is beyond the pale."
Ultimately this would not have happened if he didn't get out of the car.
Remember when Tony himself stepped into the path of an oncoming car to give them a piece of his mind?
Clip of Danica doing it somewhere too, that I don't care to find. Not a big fan of the sport, but I assume lots of them have done it. I'm guessing this will put a quick end to that.

Who did I chastise for not coming to the same conclusion? Show me one spot in the thread where I did that.
All I stated was what I though happened. And even at that, what I think is possible (Stewart trying to spook the kid.), would still be accidental. Nowhere did I say Stewart intentionally killed him. Do you have serious reading comprehension problems?
I agree with Fotze in that a thorough investigation needs to be completed by authorities. I don't have a clue how sprint cars are controlled but, that being said, Stewart is a professional. These drivers react to events at speeds that most drivers wouldn't. Also, I don't think racers should leave their cars during an incident obviously due to safety.
The accident is tragic and sad. For Stewart to declare he would race the following day was heartless.
The PC over reaction to the thread title is ridiculous.
Quoted this part because I am in total agreement with you on this point.

Not only that, but what were officials thinking? The guy was just involved in what should have been a very traumatic incident. Regardless if he wants to race, shouldn't race officials be concerned about his metal state and how that could put into danger not only his safety, but that of everyone else on the track?

They only care about money.
