Default GAME 6 : Ottawa RedBlacks at STAMPEDERS

Another team that is supposed to be a sure win by the Stampeders. We all know that Stamps seems to let the weaker team off the hook and for some reason they make the game tougher than it should be. Case in point against the weaker Montreal, Hamilton and Toronto this early this season they barely won the game. Against a weaker BC Lions last week, they ended up losing the game due to turnovers and defense collapsing for the first time this season. Tomorrow they are going to be playing a 1-4 expansion team Ottawa RedBlacks. I sure hope they learned their lesson last week.

OFFENSE :

QB Bo Levi Mitchell had a better game this season last week only for the Stamps to lose the game and BLM losing his first game for the first time in his early career. RB Martell Mallett played well rushing for 116 yards and caught the ball for 59 yards passing. WR Joe West finally caught the ball last week and he ended up with 4 catches for 49 yards. R Marquay McDaniel ended up with 50 receiving yards and 1 TD for the game. WR Anthony Parker struggled in the game. They were 2 BLM passes that he gave up on and didn't even try to catch the ball. Then on the last play by Stamps he caught the ball but fumbled the ball.

DEFENSE :

The first game this season that the defense collapsed. Bad tackling, bad coverage and penalties did them in. I don't think we can blame the defense on the lost vs BC because the offense only scored a measly 3 points in the second half. S Josh Bell had a brutal game, missing his assignment and he was guilty of a stupid penalty after BC committed a penalty already on the scrimmage. BC scored some points on that series. I guess Bell was too caught up in trying to show his former team BC Lions they made a mistake in not re-signing him. LB/DB Keon Raymond had his usual game 7 tackles, 1 ST tackles, 1 INT for a TD. LB Deron Mayo had 7 tackles and 2 knockdowns. DE Charleston 'SackMaster' Hughes had a sack and now have 5 sacks leading the team and 2nd in the CFL.
Stamps defense gave up 385 yards in total offense last week and 108 in rushing yards. The stingy defense now given up 47 points in the last 2 games after allowing 30 points in the first 3 games.
DB Buddy Jackson and non-import DB Adam Thibault will draw in the lienup this game replacing DB Brandon McDonald and slightly injured DT Ben D''Aguilar.

SPECIAL TEAM :

LS Tim St. Pierre will be starting again tomorrow with LS Randy Chevrier still out because of the injury. We can't even tell Chevy is out the way St. Pierre been playing.

OPPONENTS :

Ottawa have the worst defense in the CFL so this is the game that our offense should start playing well. Their defense is so awful that they end up releasing veteran linebacker TJ Hill just recently.

Aside from the coaching staff, RedBlacks have a few former Stampeders in their lineup. QB Burris, OL Deane and Gott, DT Justin Phillips and safety Eric Fraser.

GAME TIME : Saturday, August 9th at 5:30PM MST at McMahon Stadium
The game will be televised on TSN and ESPN3.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

GAME NOTES :

Calgary

RB Jon Cornish(concussion), RB Matt Walter(concussion), OL Brander Craighead(ankle), WR Maurice Price(broken finger), LS Randy Chevrier(undisclosed), LB Alvin Bowen(knee), LB Max Caron(knee), DE Ben D'Aguilar(knee) are OUT. Healthy scratches are : SB Nik Lewis, DL Demonte Bolden, DL DeQuin Evans, CB Brandon McDonald.

Ottawa

DE Justin Phillips(broken leg), WR Kierre Johnson(arm), DB Jovon Johnson(bicep), LB Anton McKenzie(bicep), OL Joe Eppele(shoulder), DE Chris McCoy(hand), OT Nate Menkin(upper body), DE Marlon Smith(undisclosed), KR Tim Maypray(undisclosed), DT Moton Hopkins(undisclosed), DB Seth Williams(undisclosed) are OUT.

*******************************************

Stampeders are averaging over 114 rushing yards per game, 2nd highest total in the CFL. Stamps only starts one Canadian player on defense (DT Corey Mace).
Charleston Hughes with 5 sacks is now 4 sacks behind Riders John Chick after Chick plastered Wpg QB Drew Willy 3 times in this week's game.

Key to winning against Ottawa is to keep Burris in pocket and rush him into throwing the ball. That's when Burris makes his mistakes. Another is to keep RB Chevon Walker in check. The guy is elusive and can make defense miss. Walker can also catch the ball and gain some yardage after the catch.
Avoid unnecessary penalties and turnovers.
This is the time for the offense to shine. Yes Stamps are 4-1 this season but 3 of those wins are because of the defense and 1 win was because of the special team. Offense are out of sync so far not because of BLM. Some of the blames are drop passes and turnovers(fumbles).

This is a game that the offense should really do well in. Ottawa is awful defensively.

They should attack Eric Fraser over the middle...over and over again....after establishing the run against a weak front 7.

The Stamps have to start throwing deep more often.

All these dump offs/buble screens.hitch passes are way to easy to defend when all the personel are up tight to the line.
