I'm pretty sure the crossover is still in effect.

edit: Actually, the TSN reporters were discussing whether the CFL, being a 9 team league, should just switch to one division as well as would a west team sitting in 2nd or 3rd late in the season be in a better position of falling to 4th to crossover versus having to try and reach the Grey Cup through the far tougher west division.

Yup...this straight off the CFL website

Quote:
If the fourth-place team in division A has more points, not tied, than the third-place team in division B, the fourth-place team will crossover to division B, replace the third place team in division A, and compete against the second-place team of that division.

Nope. I just assumed now that there are 4 teams in the East and 5 teams in the West, they will go back to the old playoff form..but I guess I was wrong. Transplant just pulled off something from the Official CFL website and it says Crossover is still in effect.

I don't think they will try to get rid of the 2 division format because the CFL owners will not go for it especially the teams from the East. In my opinion They can still keep the 2 Division format but they should have the #1 & #2 to get a bye, then #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 play in quarterfinals. #1 will play the lowest ranking team (could be #6 if #6 upset #3 or #4 or #5). Then #2 will play #3 if #3 wins otherwise they'll play the winner of #4 or #5.

Not sure if that would happen though.

So Week 4 was a dud. Blowout in BC 41-6 over Montreal, Winnipeg losing to Edmonton wasn't even close. Score was 26-3. Calgary Stampeders one of the top offensive team in the CFL only won 10-7 over Hamilton. Thanks to defense Stamps managed to win this game. The most exciting game was the Ottawa over Toronto on a field goal by K Brent Maher 18-17 but the whole game was a dud. Ottawa did not score a TD once at that game. Hopefully Week 5 will be a lot better.

Im not sure why you'd call the week a dud. The BC/Montreal game was fun to watch as BC had something to prove for their horrible record coming into this game. Not to mention accusing Montreal for running the up the score in their last game (Hypocritically the game the Lions were whining about was the 9-24 loss, yet they ran up the score 41-5 in their next meeting)

The Ottawa/Toronto game was fun too, despite the lack of a TD, Ottawa had some big plays and won it last minute infront of a energized home crowd.

I was at the Ottawa-Toronto game and didn't think it was a dud. Not fantastic, with the Redblacks still struggling to get on the same page on the offence, but pretty entertaining. The second half was the better of the two.

I will say that if anyone's in Ottawa and gets a chance to go to a game, they should. The revitalized stadium and surrounding development is fantastic. There were a few teething issues on Friday night (first time with 25K people), but those will get better. Despite those issues, no one in my section had too many complaints. Everyone was just thrilled to have football back, with good ownership and an awesome stadium.

For BC fan yes it was fun. Montreal just suck in that game. No offense and no defense..how can you call that fun to watch? I might agree with you on the Ottawa-Toronto game because it was exciting at the end when Kicker Brent Maher made the winning field goal but other than that nothing much happening. I am excited for Ottawa fans and I wish them well. I am rooting for them in the East because of the former Stamps players and coaches.

After a slow start the Riders are putting the boots to Toronto.

Dan LeFevour played the game of his life as Hamilton beat Ottawa

Looks like Ricky Ray only has two types of plays:

Short pass to WR for a 4 yard gain and getting destroyed by Rider defense

I think that the CFL owners might be forced to discuss whether there should be only one division if it appears that the West teams are starting to angle to finish 4th instead of 3rd or even 2nd as the season goes on.

They should do it regardless of any improprieties that might occur in the West.

The East is epically bad and have been for a while now....though nothing as bad as this year.

Its beyond a small sample size at this point and the numbers are inarguable and truly astounding as to how horrible the Eastern conference is.

The 4 teams are a combined 4-13 (West is 16-7) with a collective PF/PA at an alarming -133 (West is +133). Toronto is 1-4 and tied for 1st place!! Its a joke.

Yet...at least 2 of those teams will make the post season while its entiely possible that 2 teams in the west with better records wont make it at all.

Its really a predicament that shouldnt be occurring...this is a 9 team friggin league, there simply is no need for 2 divisions IMO.

Things should start to appear more balanced by the end of the season as the intra-division games are stacked towards the end (for better playoff races) and somebody has to win those games! That and the West will start beating each other. The inter-division records are going to be ridiculous though - sort of like the NHL at the start of last season when only Edmonton had a losing record against the East.

Its unlikely that any team in the east finishes above .500 as it looks now....and certainly not more than one.

Where as the West could easily have 3 teams and maybe 4 at .500 or better.

the disparity is amazing.

The 4th place team in the west will have the easiest road to the Grey Cup of the Western teams

Yeah, you might see teams taking out starters in a attempt to lose the last couple of games if 4th place is in sight.

It's not even Thursday, but the Montreal Alouettes are throwing it back today.
The team announced earlier that Don Matthews has been hired as a consultant.

There to replace Higgins soon?

Possibly, but Matthews was there for training camp this year and was a consultant for them last year as well IIRC.

Never hurts to add that kind of CFL experience to any team, but particularly that club which along with Toronto is on the verge of dumpster fire territory.
