Everyone might despise Patrick Roy but he was the type of elite goaltender that anyone would take on their team.

And it was and is his attitude that makes him a winner.

I am looking forward to Dec. 4
Gaudreau + Monahan vs Iginla and Tanguay is going to be surreal. The next generation

Until we get torched by Duchene and MacKinnon

I'm still not sold on the signing.... I feel like Iggy won't be able to catch up to Duchene and MacKinnon... Colorado is a speedy team.

Telling your team President you won't play another game for Montreal?

People always refer to that game as some kind of blemish on Roy's career. The context behind why he left Montreal went far beyond being left in for 9 goals. That particular game was just the last straw in a long string of incidents between Tremblay and Roy.

Tremblay was a dick, and I probably would have done the same thing at the time too. I mean, I would have rather told the GM instead of the owner, but the GM wasn't sitting in the front row behind the player's bench. Not only that, but Ronald Corey was the one that just just fired the entire management and coaching staff weeks before that game, and replaced them with Houle and Tremblay.

Quote:
Four games into the 1995–96 season, Mario Tremblay was hired as the new coach, replacing Jacques Demers. Roy and Tremblay, who had roomed together while playing together, had a notably strained relationship, with Tremblay regularly mocking Roy's English. Roy was a frequent target of Tremblay during the latter's sports radio career. The two had almost come to blows in two incidents in 1995, one at a Long Island coffee shop before Tremblay was announced as a coach and after Tremblay allegedly fired a shot at Roy's throat during practice.

The way he handled the situation in Montreal is not winning material. All that could been done behind doors in a mature manner as opposed to embarrassing the Montreal organization with his on the bench meltdown.

It is a blemish IMO. There was a mature way of handling that situation but Roy decided to embarrass himself and the Montreal Canadiens with his meltdown in front of a live TV audience. Not something I be proud of.

Eric Johnson can be a top pairing guy, and Tysons Barrie is a good up and coming guy. They missed him big time after the Matt Cooke cheap shot.

If he had been put on the bench after he was clearly mentally out of the game he wouldn't have had a meltdown. When you have the best goalie in the game winning you cups you don't humiliate him in front of everyone. Management should have dealt with whatever the problem was behind closed doors.

.... and I don't even like Roy.

Yah those guys are fast. Im not sure if you watched the Bruins a lot this year, but Iginla looked fast. He kept up to Lucic and Krejci easily. He looks fast for an old guy. He really played hungry, and looked super motivated all year. I was impressed.

Iginla is not a type of player to just "go away". He will be competitive until he retires, and when he isn't feeling like he can be anymore, is when he calls it quits.

He's still got a better shot than 99% of NHL players so as long as he can hit the one timer slap shot he'll have a place in the league whether he's slow as hell or not. Most guys miss the net with the shot but Iginla has got to be top 3 at that one skill, he will be able to put up 20 goals for years.

Add on that he does yoga frequently and is a disciplined professional athlete I doubt he'll ever be a liability.

Can anyone keep up with those two though? Even at age 18, MacKinnon is one of the fastest skaters in the NHL. Two steps and he's gone.

It's not like Iginla is Jason Allison skating around with a piano attached to his ass. Sure he's lost a step, but he can still move well enough, and if he doesn't have to lug the puck, it gives him a chance to move to those areas where he can get the one timer off.

You might be right. I'm thinking at worst the av's have the best 3rd line in the NhL in Tanguay, Iggy, Briere/Hishon. Maybe O'Reilly is put back to center the 2 former flames? Damm that team has some options when it comes to forwards.

The question for me is can he keep up with the play of his line mates. He had trouble keeping up with the Pens.

Making excuses for Roy doesn't cut it with me. Even if he was humiliated responding in kind makes him no better than management. Rise above it and show some class and maturity.
