I don't think there's any reason that a woman couldn't work her way up to a GM's position in the NHL. Look at Jay Feaster, he started out as a junior lawyer assigned to work with the Hershey Bears, and eventually found himself as an NHL GM, twice. That sounds similar to what Kim Ng did in MLB (except she actually played softball in college).
There are a lot of women playing hockey in the NCAA, and they're probably getting a better education than a lot of the guys playing NCAA hockey because they don't have any pro hockey dreams. I'm sure a few of them could find their way into an NHL front office.
Are there any female scouts? That's another role I don't think would be gender limited.

All new GMs are going to have someone try to take advantage of them. What's important is how they react to it.
Doug Risebrough was one of the toughest SOBs in the NHL when he played, but that didn't stop Cliff Fletcher from taking him to school once he became a GM.
If I was an owner and found out that my team could have traded for a top calibre player but didn't get the deal done just because my GM wanted to prove some chauvinistic point to a woman GM, that would be the last day that GM worked for my team.

Of course there will be women in the NHL management. That's a game of knowledge and wits and anyone smart enough can play. It's a tough road to get there for anyone however.

Why would a GM do this, because Kevin Lowe has already filled this position.
A GM's job is to be a shrewd in all their dealings. Being a woman wouldn't be one of those reasons; unless she was annoying like Kevin Lowe.

Obviously the strongest men will be stronger than the strongest women, but not all male hockey players are that big or strong, relatively speaking, and not all women are wilting flowers.
Hailey Wickenheiser for example is/was 5'10 and 180lbs (at least in wikipedia).

Mathieu rose to lead PR operations for the St. Louis Blues during a 20-year span with the team. She was the first female in any major professional sport to break the glass ceiling and hold the position.

Wickenheiser, the Wayne Gretzky of women's hockey, couldn't even cut it in the mens Swedish third-league.
Sorry, as nice of a story it would be, it's just not going to happen in the NHL. There's just way too much competition out there for these jobs.

Yeah, but it was not because she couldn't take a hit.

Yeah I agree, not in the foreseeable future, I was just speculating on what would be a "likely" position.
That said, if hockey continues to be popular and the world doesn't seize to exist, eventually there will be some unique female hockey player. Could take a thousand years though

Cassie Campbell gives me the impression she is intelligent enough to hold an NHL management position of some kind.

The lack of women interested or qualified for hockey-related upper management positions is the main reason you see none. They will have to work their way up like most men have to do in order to get to upper management. Try to get a position as a scout and impress the boss.

Yes, females will work in NHL upper management positions, and referee as well.
No, females will never play in the NHL. Their bodies are not built to be able to out-compete their male competition.

5'10" 180 isn't very big at all.
What if she gets hit through the boards by someone like Lucic? Or wants to defend a fellow player and drops the gloves? Do we want to see guys punching girls in the face? Probably not

No it's not big, but there's NHL players right now at a size like that. Eberle comes to mind. And it's not like Wickenheiser is some physical freak among female athletes, you can see way bigger women in other sports.
As I said, no she couldn't cut it in a mens league, but the reason was not that she couldn't take a hit.

Haley is absolutely a freak in terms of female physical athletes. I have seen her train in the gym multiple times and she is an incredibly large, fast and powerful woman. When you see her in the gym there isnt another woman in there that is anywhere close to her level. Shes a world class elite female athlete with a hell of a resume to prove it.

It will happen but hockey will be one of the last sports to do it. Hockey, more than any other major sport still clings to the idea that you need to have played the game to know how to manage a team. You see in other sports - baseball and basketball in particular - that they've moved past the jocks and into smart people running teams.
There's the odd guy like Feaster who didn't play at a high level but its rare.

Completely agree. When she was on the Fan960 for a while, she knew the Flames inside and out, much more than the other schmucks not named Kerr and Steinberg. But she's completely dismissed and is completely miscast as an intermission reporter.

Considering womens hockey is awful, likely never see any women in the NHL as players anymore.
The best women hockey players in the world play at a bantam boys level.
Management is a completely different story of course.

Because if a male player ever Scott Stevens'd her with an open ice hit, he would never, ever live down the rep of destroying a woman in a game. Nobody would attempt to hit her, ever over that concern.
When the NHL eventually becomes the non-contact soccer on ice league, and I immediately quit watching it, then there will be a vague chance a woman could suit up. But as long as you have misters on the ice like Chara and McGrattan, it'll never happen.
