For a guy who lives and breathes Google Earth you sure are horrible at directions lol.

I've never been there before so I have no idea where anything is.

Then again I shouldn't expect any less from a Canucks fan lol

If you stay at the River Rock, you have a train that goes right to downtown (via yaletown) attached to your hotel, another train that goes to the airport, and a casino to boot!

I hear that there are some Cardboard boxes down on East Hastings Massonite, since that Canucks ticket might set you back a pretty penny.. or would it be a Nickel now? you could set up shop beside Homeless Harry, or Promiscuous Pamela?

Definintely stay somewhere around the train line as you want to do some sightseeing and that is the fastest way to get anywhere in Vancouver.

The train stops right outside the arena, and at any other Major attractions. Canada Line heads south from Downtown to the Airport Area, the Hilton Airport is nice. Expo line heads east out to Surrey and the Millenium line heads to Coquitlam area... MAP

Close to a station would give you the best coverage, or you could stay south of the arena...

Well thanks to everyone for the info. Need to modify a hockey trip to seem romantic for the wife at the same time

Can't have her feeling unsafe. Then again, she is from Hamilton, and anything seems safe compared to that place haha

L'Hermitage on Richards is romantic and less than a 15 minute walk to the arena.

Win win.

Try the Opus in Yaletown. Lots of nice Restaurants and a quick walk to the arena. Sea wall is close by for a quick walk. Even the rest of downtown isn't to far away with a brisk walk or cheap cab ride.

Any Fairmont hotel is going to be very nice. Sutton Place is good as well. I'm just a sucker for Yaletown.

While you're down there go to Yaletown and check out Basil Pasta Bar on 636 Davie Street. Best pasta you'll probably ever have.

A lot dependent on your price range but there's a Hampton Inn and Suites on the corner of Robson and Beatty. About a 2 minute walk, pretty decent continental breakfast, and rooms were good. Easy access to everything, walking distance to Yaletown, etc. .

If you want to go all out, nothing is better than the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Game nights are tough, but you can usually get the house car to drive you to the game. If not, about a 5-8 min cab ride depending on traffic. Great location with Coal Harbor and Gastown close by.

Good for $8? Yes.

Best pasta ever? Not even remotely close.

Stay in downtown Van it's really nice. The views are amazing. I would recommend the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. It is stunning

This place just opened up close to the Stadiums too:

May have some good rates going as they're brand new and trying to gain a following.

Just stay airbnb somewhere downtown van.

So not stay anywhere outside of Vancouver. Staying in Abbotsford because of safety is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Vancouver is not unsafe by any stretch.

The Terrace Rooms at the Waterfront are pretty awesome. We had a Terrace room a few years ago and it was so nice to be able to open the patio doors and walk around the little garden area or to sit in the patio chair in the evening and enjoy the cool breeze.

The recommendation to stay in Abbotsford is hilarious. It would take you an extra 1.5 hours each way (at least) to get to/from the game. Any hotel downtown that isn't near Main & Hastings (the epicentre of open crack use in Canada) should be fine. Lots to do in downtown Van and much more atmosphere than downtown Calgary

If you're on a budget and want something a bit different check out the the Granville Island Hotel, which is across from downtown on an artsy-fartsy island. Get a room overlooking false creek for the romance factor.

Shuttle-boats make regular trips to other points in false creek, including the Plaza of Nations which is close to Roger's Arena. You'll have to cab it back though since the boats stop running around 8:30pm.
